Agree - this pattern is really underestimated. I find it especially powerful at the end of a long day when you've been deep in the details. When you come in the next morning and see that red test, you "download" the context you were in much

Depends on generation too. Some might have said Victor Borge. And also, does "outside of Denmark" mean "in the US"?

I'm glad to see this is not downvoted into grey. This may be HN, but we still love Star Trek. :)

In my experience, it's more like going to a bar and asking "where's so-and-so?" and hearing "oh, yeah, we never see them anymore after they started working for Zynga". The reputation is: long hours, cut-throat environment, back-stabbing exe

Very clever. When I first started using Linux, I always wondered why in the world anyone would use the "Redmond" skin for the desktop. Of course, it's for subterfuge. :)

It's true that greatness is rare, but I think that's partially a combination of rarity of skill and the fact that there are few people willing to put in the number of hours required to achieve greatness. (Yes, I definitely believe in the 10

In all seriousness: some folks on HN (not all) seem to be the guard in the center of the panopticon. If you could see a list of who downvoted you, I'd bet that something interesting would happen. I almost expect to come back and see my karm

I will come out and admit that when I read "network of stripes" I was thinking "oh, a story about RAID". This is interesting too, though. Most likely it is a military installation similar to what exists in the US.

Agreed - folks who are logged in as root a lot seem to have an uncanny tendency to type all kinds of stuff that probably shouldn't show up in a log anywhere. These tend to be the same folks who think that using "sudo" is a waste of time and
