I think “quarterly profits” is a perfectly acceptable answer to the question “why now.”

Sometimes people leave because their ambition is larger than the environment allows. I have a story of when I did just that. Early in my career I joined a company and I knew from day one that it was going to be an awful experience. I knew

What would an observer see? It’s plausible that they would see an attack from an uninhabited solar system but not be able to find the home location of the attacker.

Send an agent to an uninhabited star system and launch the rocks from there. Everyone that can see would see the energy expenditures, but they would get very little information other than the knowledge that a stealth based hostile civiliza

I think 2.5” magnetic storage is basically obsolete. If I care about the most storage per dollar I’ll get the full sized discs. If I care about portability then I by definition also care about things such as read/write time, reliabil

Last domain? Maybe not, but it could be among one of the last. I think heavy loads, cross country, and extremely rural are likely to be among the holdouts.

README files is the first thing I read in any source code repository. I’m noticing a trend of less useful readmes in projects. Often they are bare or provide outdated and incorrect information. This makes the introduction to the source c

Who is FT for, compared to other premium news outlets in the United States? In the recent years I’ve been shopping around a news subscription, trying to avoid clickbait and thought bubbles. I don’t think I understand their target audience,

Honestly LLMs aren’t ready for customer service. If I’m talking to a company I need to have a high degree of accuracy. LLMs are less accurate than trained humans.

Sega’s market advantage was that the hardware R&D was mostly paid for by their very successful arcade business (they still have major success here) and they made reduced costs versions of arcade hardware and sold them as home consoles.

I use microSDs for offline backups. Every Friday I zip my home folder and copy it onto one of two rotating 1TB SSD. One SSD stays at the house, another at my office, so I always have a fairly recent offsite backup. Using 1TB as my backup s
