GitHub is itself another social platform to chase the invisible algorithm. You may share useful code, but because you have ten stars and FOOBAR has 2000, people will only take FOOBAR seriously. You don't have badges on your readme? You

You could, but you shouldn't have to. If you want to sign up for XYZ, you need to sign up for BigCorp, you need to add your phone number to verify your account, etc. No thanks.

I believe Drew was taking a "break" from it, but not stepping away in any permanent sense. It's probably better for him to stay involved. I'd like to see him push his idea further. It's great to have options.

I'm happy to see the move. Codeberg is probably a more stable/long-term solution than SourceHut as the founder is slightly unhinged (but love what he has built). Honestly, either would have been great choices. More opensource proj

Popularity is part of it. It's the "default" for software. It's what is taught in every school, bootcamp, youtube channel and corner of the internet. Anyone that had an idea on a random weekend to "learn to code&quo

I used it for a product demo and my customer was able to join without an account and it was all in browser. When I created the meeting invite in my proton calendar, the meet link was automatically inserted. No more need for Jitsi for me.

> someone opens an issue: "how do i install this?" Honestly, this is a GitHub thing. You wouldn't get that issue on sourcehut, bitbucket or self hosted. GitHub is the lowest common denominator for users.

Any specific rationale for it? Security concerns? Too much work to bother, etc?

I’ve been using rtorrent for like 15 years and still do. I miss the colored patch I used to have. I seemed to have lost it.

Back in the late 90s and early 00s I started programming. I remember "bloodshed.net" and using dev c++ as my first IDE. I recently looked it up and noticed the domain changed and it's now open source? I thought it was cool to

If you can afford shipping fees, you can probably buy a raspberry pi 3 or 4 and have enough machine power to get stuff done. Also, you can find used thinkpads on facebook marketplace and a dozen other places for anything from $50 to $150. D

Cursor didn't expose it, you did when you decided to use Cursor. You're using an editor that is owned by a company with analytics built in. You're handing over your data. Stop using company hardware, software and subscription

What exactly is the point of this article? If you're not a white male and from a wealthy family, you should fall in line and work for someone else because freedom isn't in your cards.

Maybe I'm old, jaded, stubborn and paranoid, but something about a coding editor that is controlled by a company is off-putting to me. It's even more off-putting when you add Zoom, Slack and everything else into said editor.

Yes, we live in a time where we worry about offending people with the wrong pronoun or stating there’s only two genders. I think we are far away from the cojones we had in 40-60s.
