You can quickly provide a shared session connection to an external third party, so they can access computers that are not publicly accessable and that they normally would not have access to without having to do any credential management. It

I've replaced pulse with pipewire and that has been seamless. The experience is generally determined by how well the distro supports moving from one to the other rather than any maturity issues with pipewire. I've retained jackd i

Probably not. Kernel handles the hardware. User-space deals with things like routing, mixing, resampling, fx, etc. Having that functionality outside of the kernel offers a lot more flexibility. Despite people chafing at the user-space audio

Read an article on this last week. With the internet sucking up all the advertising revenue, journalism is turning into propaganda in order to try to retain patronage. It's eating them from the inside out. https://thedispatc

Your argument is completely non-sequiter. My point has nothing to do with who gives what portion of their income. My point is that when defining who is rich, it's almost always somebody else. While taxing the rich more than the poor is

Because nobody is wealthy. The "wealthy" is always that other person who has more than me. Truth is that everybody in the US (and Europe) is wealthy. The panhandler on the corner is making more money than the median daily income o

Completely agree with you. I would normally expect the inclusion of "enemies" into "neighbours" to be implicit in light of the prelude and postlude around the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Remember when slashdot was interesting? Keep dragging divisive topics into HN and it will turn into the sh!thole that slashdot is now. I'm not just talking about politics, an article about vim vs emacs is (usually) just as worthless. T

Same exact issue. Especially with people from Africa for some reason. I get a lot of stuff from 3 people from Kenya, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Most everything there is managed by phone, and they just use my email as a throw-away address.

Interesting bit of trivia on why the frame rate is '119.88' instead of 120: It's using the NTSC/ATSC frame-base of 1.001. Ever since old TV standards moved from black and white to color within the US, the timing has been

I've honestly had much better luck using ffmpeg, especially now that it can generate both HLS and DASH manifests for the same encoded content. Next major release will support a zmq pub-sub source/destination which will make dynami

I've run VXLAN over top of wireguard connections. One advantage is that you can have multiple intermediate wireguard connections that are not visible at the VXLAN layer.

Automated config management. As for YAML itself, it is handy to have some advanced functionality in a non-turing complete serialization format for the sake of things like security. It's not perfectly analogous, but PostScript is an exa
