Yes, but there is no rush to migrate to the new edition - once stabilised the new features will continue to exist in nightly, in the same form as in stable. And yes, presumably at some stage there will be a migration of the kernel from nigh

The kernel already does something similar every few years by upgrading to a new edition of C or version of gcc. https://lwn.net/Articles/885941/ https://lwn.net/Articles/855095/ This hap

There's plenty of discussion out there - just not much in the way of nicely formatted documentation. There is a consensus on the way forward, but it remains to be seem how many tricky details can be resolved.

Ah... Well FreeBSD on the Apple M1 is highly unlikely, so this is going to be a non-issue in the near term. And none of the existing DRM drivers are likely to be rewritten in Rust. In the medium term, maybe some in-kernel dependencies might

It's not possible to use the DRM drivers in other operating systems. Or are you talking about NVidia's closed source drivers?

This is more a question of policy than mechanism - I'd imagine at least a provisional policy is in place, but the only to be found somewhere in the relevant kernel mailing lists.

How is Bitwig with alternate tunings? I've been a bit frustrated with the inability to work easily in Ableton 9 with non-Western or microntonal tunings.

mX macs are the future - you are guaranteed that there will be future generations of laptops sold in the millions(?) using at least some of this hardware. So the huge amount of work is probably going to be worth it. Legacy phone hardware...

RMS has the right to behave as he wants. He is not obliged to behave in a particular way. My point is that the way he chooses to behave is in the long run damaging to the community that he founded and leads.
