The real danger is the tiles, it's that throws something hard, shatters one of the tiles, releases dust, and someone breathes the dust in. I'm actually astounded this is allowed to be there in a public place, because at home you c

What do you guys think Excel spreadsheets did? Back in the day people had pages with lots of boxes and did the calculations manually. The processes, terms, techniques, were all human inventions and shamelessly replicated by machines. Almo

It's really really not best understood as a sophisticated collage tool. You can't take a person and turn them into a cartoon if you're just pasting existing parts of images together. Stable diffusion understands what is a car

The request is to eliminate the technology. The training data set for stable diffusion has 5 billion images. Even if it was a single dollar per image, the data set as a whole would cost $5 billion. Getting consent of all the authors within

Isn't this machine never being invented a net loss for society? I want my computer to be able to summon images out of the ether if I ask it for a picture of anything I could imagine. I could not imagine a positive system that would va

The problem is, the net contribution of most artists to these systems is next to zero. It's greater than zero, otherwise the AI wouldn't exist, but these AI are trained off of 5 billion plus examples. Examples that required work t

Under capitalism artist would be unable to make a profit off of their art. Under communism artists would be barred from making art entirely, ordered by the state to work in a place where it is deemed to be productive.

I think what we are seeing here is a proxy argument. Artists do not care about the copyright of people being able to learn from their art and reproduce it. It is not been an issue for decades, because it is a long established standard of co

I have to be correcting you here, stable diffusion does not combine images.

Technically we do have examples of stable diffusion violating copyright, it will generate some exact clone images if you give it the right prompt and that image exists a few hundred times in the training data.

Isn't the solution just to check for existing images - train an AI that can tell if an image came from your dataset, and don't use the generated picture if it matches? Generating copyright images isn't a problem. Using them

There's tons of good content on TikTok - the problem is that it has massive potential as a weapon/propaganda platform. If you wait until it's used as a weapon, you've waited way way too long.
