I think his broader point was that unstable governments exist today and also existed before with colonialism as one example of many.

Doesn't saying that to a bank hurt your chances of claiming the Foreign Income Tax Credit? To my (very) limited understanding, the IRS will use any means to say that you don't quality for this. This includes not closing out old dr

For anybody whose curious about apostilles (because in the US we generally don't need these): Apostilles are signed by the secretary of state in the state in which you reside. They can apostille any document, including ones they don&#x

The United States has been _uniquely incompetent_. Early on when the world was in flux circa March 2020, my friend needed to get in touch with the US embassy because countries were shutting down so suddenly. He was in Brazil at the time. Th

I visited LA for a week in 2018 and SF for two weeks in 2016. Never have I felt so unliked on a personal level (weird scowls in the Mission district, didn't get one match on Tinder lmao). I made it a point that I would never return to

You must understand that people have not liked SF for a long time -- at least five years if not further -- and feel "stuck" there for career reasons. The pandemic has made a lot of things (everything?) about the city much worse wh

Interesting. I believe Tom Hanks is also really into typewriters. However, everything is required to be digital these days and often we're submitting and publishing online or in unusual places that, save for a secretary, a typewriter i

These claims act as if the Vietnamese weren't themselves divided on communism or that the USSR wasn't running propaganda campaigns to convince everybody they were in the moral right.

Even crazier is that tuition went up at its fastest rate last year apparently -- _even during the pandemic!_. People are more thirsty than ever for college. This is one of the things I got most wrong about the Pandemic (the other being they

Idk if its just me but I find the testing frameworks for expressJS to be _awful_ -- chai and mocha work great but throw in sinon and its like pulling teeth. The lack of good documentation is painful and often treats me like I don't alr

I was just in Kaunas and ran into American soldiers -- or what I thought were American soldiers? We chatted and they implied this.

Not entirely related, but one doesn't necesarily use the advances as cash in the pocket -- you dump it into assets that pay you money (e.g. bonds). Taken to an extreme, you see David Bowie who floated the royalties of all his records a
