This is all getting rather silly, right? I was the first one to mock Richard Stallman for being too radical, dramatic and paranoid but I can now confirm he wasn't. Every word he said in last 15 or so years is true. This all simply make

Yeah I know, I am so desperate to hope that obscurity will provide security :) Seriously at least no more JS running free in browser makes me happy on so many levels.

This is so deep and complex that I don't expect to be at ease using computer in the future. There can only be more flaws that easily open this can every time somebody wants to open it. The only half secure way I see is to carefully pic

This is a real problem that I try untangling myself for many months. I have zero phone addiction but my work requires that I sit by the computer and often use browser for documentation. Which makes limiting distractions a lot harder. I di

'rare one' I used should clarify. I never speak for others so always surprised I have to explain that. Although I do have badge that allows me to represent entire planet I don't use it ;)

Isn't every single claim subjective opinion? If any claim from me and you correlates we can call it 'objective' but that only means there is group of us that accidentally share subjective opinion. For every X we hate and ever

Yeah, 'feels right' is almost always my primary criteria too. I don't do much scripting but when I do it is either (rarely) bash or (almost always) Ruby, never Python. I am doing some Apple apps too but I can't start to

Amazing, must read article. Also rare one that confirms I am not crazy -- Python spacing sucks and I don't like it. Which did confuse me for a long time, I did dislike Python indentation while everybody else telling how great it is. I

Thanks. I suspect the same since I don't see too much complaints online. It is most probably just a weird timing when I got fed up with slow MBP while we see all the iPhone slowdown reports.

I asked the same yesterday in another topic. I have mid 2012 MacBook Pro that behaves terribly with High Sierra, while it was fairly snappy with Sierra. Now it takes about 5 seconds to start any app, even for simple apps like iTerm2. Since

I am arguing that you can't create the system where only 100% of speed can be achieved by having 100% non-degraded battery. iPhone must have 10-20% security margin in battery capacity so when battery degrades it doesn't require de

Sorry I wasn't completely clear. When I say 'by design' I don't really mean 'planned obsolescence', I mean 'system design problem' because somebody wanted to shave another 0.01 mm of thickness. I woul

Maybe. I hope so but we can't really tell if new batteries have security margin or not. It will show in 12+ months.

Seriously, isn't this discussion of the wrong topic altogether? CPU is not too strong, battery is too weak by design. Am I missing the point in this and other articles arguing about everything else but not about battery capacity? What

This is another very good question that didn't get proper answer yet. I have noticed significant slowdown on my 2012 Mac Book Pro, after installing High Sierra. Up to the point of not being to start any app for several seconds, which w

If it is only one hiccup I woundn't react half as much but we could see exactly the same 'form over function' flaw with Mac Pro recently. Mac Pro has no cooling margin so it often fries graphic cards as soon as you try using

There is a lot of gymnastics this days, from people like John Gruber and Rene Ritchie to downplay what just happened. Truth is their 'explanations' are disturbing to watch and extremely unhelpful to Apple. Plain and simple, batter

I spend at least one month in Greece every year, they are _almost_ as relaxed as 20 years ago. Is there a chance that mass media tries to push one specific narrative, which does not reflect actual state?

Have you been in Greece or Spain? Experienced quality of life is way above statistical or expected. Proud moment in most of the Europe is being able to take relaxed coffee and think, which is possible in most countries. I am always puzzled

While unfortunate it is good that this happened. It will help some 'more creative' individuals in marketing feel the boundaries they didn't understand. Comparing FF and Chrome security/privacy wise is ridiculous, I reall

I am very curious to see how cooling holds after couple of months of use. I did use iMac and fan didn't work silently as soon as I actually used processor. Maybe it works better now, that's a lot of cores and a lot of heat.

It is also plain bad but even more important is lock in that you mention. Bugs can be fixed but wrong philosophy can't.
