Came here to say exactly this. I’m waiting for Amazon to deliver the new CPU cooler I ordered today so my i9-9900k can run flat out for longer when building, after I spent so much of yesterday waiting 20 mins for another build when my attem

Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful response. On its face that seems plausible. I wonder if gender bias still kicks in once in career. I seem to see way less than 35% Indian women vs men in very senior or management roles. (Just my anecd

This stood out to me, and aligns with my observations in the (limited) female representation in the workplace: > In India, for instance, about 35% of developers are women; in the U.S., it’s 16% Does India not have the various gender bias

I spent much of today doing some woodwork in the garage, and due to its untidiness, probably spent as much time looking for various tools as I did using them. (Not to mention tripping a time or two). Working in a large code base that has li

“...rest of the day” seems like an understatement. I was living in Australia at the time, never having lived in the U.S, and everyone was pretty shaken and lost for words for a few days (at least in my circle and workplace).

It really depends on how complex your code is and what you're targeting. For example, the V8 JavaScript engine has a ton of ifdefs depending on OS (Windows, Mac, Linux, Fushia), bitness (32 or 64), chipset (ARM, ARM64, PPC, x64, etc.)

I figured out for myself a while back, that if I suspect I’m taking the “easy” choice or making excuses for myself, if I imagine there was a great coach standing next to me who knew my mindset & goals and had my best interests in mind,

It's not just the registers, the use of the stack (e.g. lack of a "red zone" on Windows) as well as the data used for exception handling are different too. The MSDN links above are quite detailed on what Windows implements. T

I don't know, but generally call-site inference has a couple of notable issues: - If you don't have any calls to the function yet (i.e. "bar(foo)" wasn't there above), then there is nothing to infer from, so you hav
