No. They can act on safety concerns AND retain their market edge. I am just saying that firing Sam, sacrificing their edge with the resulting fallout, is not a good way of acting on safety concerns.

Firing Sam over concerns about safety and commercialization would be so myopic. OpenAI’s commercial success is the engine that fuels their research and digs their moat. Slowing down that engine means giving other companies, who may not shar

What are you talking about? This is trivially shown to be incorrect. I just asked ChatGPT the same thing three times in a row, and it gave me three different answers, with the latter two answers being shorter and rephrased. >I would imag

Gorgeous! It's a shame that CGI is so prevalent, because without context I would totally assume this was CGI. Some of the shots would fit right in with a Portal cutscene. Imagine playing on the one in the center of the orb. It's t

Unless you’re Jensen Huang. The man can certainly afford a few more leather jackets now. I hope all this AI money sloshing around spurs other players to make compelling GPUs.

Well, the knowledge cutoff is much more recent (I think sama said April 2023?), so having more, newer data might be a significant contributing factor.

What (dis)advantages does writing a game in Rust (with Bevy) have compared to other languages? Keen to hear about performance, safety, and dev velocity.

“Easily” — this has to be satire, right? Why are we containerizing a React app? It’s literally just a bundle of JavaScript. I have to spin up a whole container just to run `npm start` locally? I guess it’s kind of cool that they show how to

It seems arXiv does support name changes, just not in citations and references[1] This seems… fine? To modify citations would be a strange alteration of history and an intrusion on authorship. If someone quotes this comment and cites it a

> The company said all addresses associated with the spread of the malware have been blacklisted How does this work? Can a single entity really just blacklist certain addresses? How is this decentralized?

The coins are fungible, right? So the notion of a “a coin” doesn’t even make sense to me — they’re just numbers in a database. Let’s say we send 1 clean BTC to address A and 1 dirty BTC also to address A. Are both those coins now tainted? I

It’s about the incentives and marginal change. Sure, you’d go for earning more, but now you’re less incentivized to do so. It might not matter to you, but it matters to the people at the margins — the people who are just on the edge of bein

What took down Airbnb for me personally wasn't the government, nor was it the housing crisis, but rather the poor experience it offered. Years ago, staying at an Airbnb was a fun novelty and often I could save a buck. Now the novelty h

The “data” in question is reported theft , but the article completely ignores the possibility that theft goes unreported in these areas because the population is aware that reporting the theft will do nothing. It’s hard to take the article

How does this make any sense? Let’s assume that this isn’t some grift like “we hope they’ll pay more than what it costs us in maintenance” or “hope they forget to cancel”. Don’t subscriptions only make sense if you have lots of customers?

I can buy this argument for Apple, but Google? To me it seems like there is an intuitive split between Search+Ads, GSuite, YouTube, and Android. Why do you believe breaking these up would adversely affect the US economy?

I don’t think we should get rid of cruises, but I don’t see the movie theater comparison as valid. Movie theaters don’t emit tons of CO2. (One could also make the argument that movie theaters propagate the arts, which is a good purpose)
