That's funny, I was at a 4th of July gathering this week where tens of thousands of people listened to an orchestra play "Across the Stars Suite" from Star Wars before a fireworks show.

I think the IG graph is more similar to the Twitter graph than the FB graph. Also, IG has much more of a “cool factor” which they’re hoping Threads will inherit. I follow my grandparents on FB, and I don’t necessarily want that on my Thread

I live in Texas and got a “smart” thermostat recently. I was delighted to find that my energy company is offering a $25/year credit for having one. It’s not much, but it’s nice to have. …or so I thought. It turns out that accepting thi

I agree with your main point, but the bit about anecdotes is tricky. We live in a society where research and information on these substances has been suppressed. As a result, anecdotes, to a large degree, are all we have. This is gradually

Electric cars becoming dominant seems like an inevitability to me, and it looks like many auto makers agree. It’s “just” a matter of battery costs, battery density, energy costs, and volume. What does Toyota see that we’re missing? I ask th

I’m confused by your line of questioning. Why do you think I can’t be satisfied? I don’t have a problem with this Google poll. I think it is valuable. What would satisfy my desires is exactly what I stated in my original comment: something

Yikes, I guess I’m way too sensitive to ever be a kernel dev. Kent seems way out of line. “Direct” is one thing, telling a maintainer they have no idea what they’re talking about is another. It’s totally uncalled for. Are they trying to imi

Apple maps has been good for a long time now. Anecdotally, I find the navigation to be more clear and the UX more intuitive. I only use Google Maps for discovery and reviews. The navigation experience is not very good.

I like how geohot takes these concepts that seem impossibly complex to an outsider (mixture of models, multi modality) and discusses them so casually that they seem accessible to anyone. The flippancy is refreshing.

For reference, this beat GPT-3.5 which scores 47%, but not GPT-4 which scored a massive 67%. Beating out GPT-3.5 at any task with such a small model is very cool to me. How much longer until these dumb virtual assistants (Siri, Google, Al

Yeah. Going a bit faster on your morning commute won’t change much. But it does legitimately add up on longer drives. Not to mention, waiting behind a needlessly slow driver is just annoying. Mental costs are real, especially when operating

Yes. There is nothing special about modeling the world. There isn’t some threshold where the ability to model the world suddenly emerges. The AI will model the world if modeling the world is the simplest way to predict the next word. For ba
