Unfortunately, it's really hard to generalize. If the evaluation involves Nixpkgs, for example, Nix needs to copy Nixpkgs into the Nix store, which is many MB. And of course this needs to happen for all flake inputs. I've seen thi

Ah! You asked about flakes as well. Just saw that. Basically flakes are a construct in Nix that enable you to (a) ensure that your Nix code is always "pinned" to specific revisions of your inputs (for example Nixpkgs but other inp

I've been meaning to write something pithy on this and this is a great spur to action. Basically Nix is something you use to build software reproducibly, that is, where you can take the same inputs and get the exact same bytes on disk

Oil shell requires osh to run. That means that you can't run Oil scripts on systems that only have Bash installed.

Amazing band. Still heartbroken by the loss of Mimi. Their version of Little Drummer Boy is my favorite ever Christmas song and it’s not even close.

I would recommend seeking out other people in your same situation to talk to. Non-native speakers who are eager to learn but aren't yet fully fluent. You feel more emboldened to correct each other, you feel much more comfortable asking

To be clear, I would not expect it to be as fast! But I do wonder what the percentage drop-off would be and, if small enough, if that would make staying on Actions more compelling than a bespoke solution.

OPA is much more wide ranging. You can use it for permissions, sure, but also just about anything else you can imagine. I think that makes it much more compelling as a technological investment.

Well, the key difference is that using all those things together is very quickly going to ensnare you in a big pile of goo. That you can forgo all of that and just write functions without having to build them into Wasm or any other format w
