The ESF is self financing. And yeah, sure, it is artificially propping up the peso, the same way we propped up the Mexican peso, the Thai bhat, and others once upon a time.

Definitely check out Open Folk for weekly shows (some folk but a very eclectic mix so don't overindex on the name). And hit up La Viruta on Saturday nights (after midnight) for amazing live tango music.

Did we bail them out before? From what I can tell, we opened up a currency swap using a Treasury fund (not funded by tax dollars) specifically devoted to currency stabilization.

I’m curious what you find harder to understand about flakes as dependencies

Nope! This feature is completely agnostic to the Nix language, dealing only with how/when files are copied to the Nix store. More of an under-the-hood implementation detail than anything, although one with important consequences.

Standard in the sense of "a non-magical CLI tool that wraps a platform's HTTP API," not standard in the sense of "used by a majority of users."

The expectation seems to be that Eelco work on Nix full time for free lest he be accused of neglect. Is there a way for Eelco to make money that you would approve of?

fh is the CLI tool for FlakeHub. It's been around almost as long as FlakeHub itself. It's pretty standard fare, not really an abstraction per se.

Out of curiosity, do you object to the existence of services like Cachix, Nixbuild, and Garnix, which also do not have open source backends?
