You state this with no evidence provided. Nuclear isn't cheaper now, and won't be any time soon. If we want more cheap energy then renewables _are_ the right solution, especially in places like the US where land is cheap and there

This is written from a position of ignorance on European companies. There are successful midpoints between US style capitalism and communism. In Germany, for example, company boards (for large firms) have worker representation: https:/

This seems like an excellent idea. How easy would it be for, e.g. MS to implement. Are there any potential downsides?

I agree. I don’t want to overstate it. But I guess im also squeamish about people into Ww2 merch too(it’s a thing in the uk… people dress up in 40s dresses and pretend the war is on). It seems a weird period to be rosy tinted about.

I thought the Italian luxury stuff had actually gone now. Prada etc are withdrawing. At this point I don’t blame anyone for sanctioning first then Reviewing later. What is happening in Ukraine is obscene. If there is the smallest possibilit

I really like Microsoft’s mirror of CRAN because it’s versioned by date- you can install everything as it was on a particular date, so that kind of reproducibility is easy. I wonder if this could be added to pypi

India has a similarly authoritarian nationalist govt and looks a lot like Russia 20 years ago. I am very nervous about the direction India is heading.

His mistake is to mix up these plays. If he had stuck to that balkans play it would all be a lot harder to argue with from a western perspective. We just don’t know enough t about Eastern European politics/beefs. But he’s also talked a

There’s merit on both sides here. I think the key is that OP was making a personal Point about their own reflection. However well documented in academic texts or small newspapers thinking about how the US has meddled and more is not mainstr

This is absurd. The Russians being sanctioned in Europe are gangster crooks who robbed from their own.

I don’t see how stopping buying oil would be preferable from the perspective of a Russian citizen. Both will be economically ruinous to the Russian states, eventually. One hits innocent European citizens too, so it seems obvious which to c

Can you explain how a Signal conversation with a verified correspondent can be wiretapped? My understanding was that their safety code would change and you would have to revalidate if anything untoward happened, but perhaps I’m wrong…

I'm not aware of those studies related to the Ioannides paper, but the story on replication in psychology and specifically social psychology is not at all pretty. My sense is that there are research domains that are functional, but oth

What evidence is there for that though? It sounds to me as though it's free market dogma posing as reasonable common sense. In social media, for example, there is currently competition. Yes FB is big, but new players are entering the m

I used to think this, but I'm not sure the evidence actually supports it. The UK has similar levels of immigration and overseas-born citizens as Scandi countries, but nowhere near their levels of social cohesion/social democracy.
