The comment you’re replying to also has many characteristics of trolling. It’s ignorant of what actually happens inEU countries, as well as the motivation behind the regulations that seem to have become a between noir for a certain libertar

Yes, context window is a limiting factor, but that's true however you identify the content to augment generation.

Although RAG is often implemented via vector databases to find 'relevant' content, I'm not sure that's a necessary component. I've been doing what I call RAG by finding 'relevant' content for the current p

Their marketing is very much like this. It’s completely misleading. They are definitively not selling “keep it up at all costs, money no object”

There is such a thing as an unfair contract. Moreover, there are business practices that can become a local maxima in an industry and squeeze out competition which would actually be a net benefit to most consumers. Mobile roaming was the

I suspect it will be no worse than enterprisey code. It might even look quite similar, although the comments and docs will be more thorough and less likely to be actively wrong.

I think the point is that - rather than deliberately wishing misery on others - our society is set up such that success often or always implies creating misery for others.

Yeah, but then you’re into utility weighting functions. It’s simpler to just reify wellbeing/happiness because the others are all essentially subsidiary. I think there is probably a Pareto optimum for wellbeing which is not a simple fu

Ireland has a similar approach. It’s one of the few reasons why leaving the EU could have made sense.

I can’t tell if this is satire or a genuine point being made. It’s a long way from reality if anyone was in any doubt!

This comment states the obvious, but it isn't adding anything. Must has expensive lawyers for this kind of stuff, but in the worst case (there is no legal route to stop Russia using starlink in this way) I would want to make it very cl

I think it’s worth distinguishing the text and subtext of these instructions. The text might ask for a uniform distribution in order to override a bias. If OpenAi find (plausibly) that the bias is strong then you might need a strong prompt

That was in a time when expectations were low and all the banks were pretty equally crap. There are better choices now, and even my mum would be pissed off of her bank website didn’t work in her current browser.

This is a tragedy of the commons, rather than simple laziness. Choice of messaging apps is the same. I may know that the world would be a better place if everyone ditched WhatsApp and used signal, but I want to schedule tennis matches today

It could improve performance, but let’s not kid ourselves that there are many companies that care about the minutiae of battery life as much as Apple. I mean, have you used a windows laptop recently. It’s -so- much worse than a MacBook that

You are wrong. Paris literally this week voted to tax SUVs from the city, in part because of pollution. It also speaks to a wider concern here not to allow commerce to dominate other public goods.

I don’t know the details, but one of the few benefits of having companies as rich as Apple is that they can conceivably push back on stupidly broad patents. That they have lost this case doesn’t mean the parent is in any way sensible. Most
