I am a total novice when it comes to chip design; but aren't there obvious tradeoffs with any architecture? Isn't it really hard to have a silver bullet that is super powerful / wide in its processing path and efficient for p

PetaPoco is awesome and I tested against it for performance (it's a little bit faster). Some things this has that PetaPoco doesn't are expression visitors for the where clauses and the concept of referenced objects or child collec

Huge caveat; it's only faster than Dapper after the 1st query when it's built up the cached metadata, and only if you're not using referenced objects or child collections. The speed comes from dynamically emiting IL for the o

We're going to do a longer blog post on this later, but if you don't want to use Massive for your sql mapper, maybe try out: http://github.com/clotheshorse/destrier works similarly in that you can map output

I love mono. I think it's a great thing to try and bring .net/C# to more people. But seriously guys, can we get System.Data.SqlClient to the point that it's production ready? the only thing that's holding us back from ro

Very easy to say, "Work hard, don't take the easier path, it'll be more rewarding ultimately." Much harder to actually do. The number of people picking up instruments and really learning how to play vs. cranking through

In a very famous episode of Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson drives a Land Rover to the top of a mountain in Scotland all while chewing up the peat bogs (he then just leaves it there over night). They caught a lot of flack for that segment, but it

This is pretty awesome for some types of hangs. I would bet most hangs developers experience are because of locking on SessionState. IReadOnlySessionState is your friend.

ASP.net MVC is pretty awesome, there are some good open source projects like Nancy for more lightweight stuff, Entity Framework isn't great but it's pretty mature and fast for an ORM. Visual Studio continues to be the best IDE on the market

I am totally fine with this; one of the things (I) assumed 4sq would do with all the checkin data. It is strange this article makes it seem like some dirty little secret that companies like 4sq need to make money. Either the product costs m

there are no real facts in economics, but there are some pretty easy concepts to grasp. here is another explanation: "Inflation is bad, but deflation is worse. The reason is that in a deflationary environment, no one spends money — because

inflation is an absolutely necessary force in an economy; without inflation there is little incentive to spend money and as a result there is no real liquidity. tl;dr; money is useless if no one spends it, that's the whole point. another wa

I think they're falsely assuming that electric cars work like hybrids, in that regenerative breaking will help boost economy vs. driving on a highway where you don't get this benefit. This isn't out of the question, you would assume that th

Those offices are buying super low margin PCs that make Dell very little money. The PC market is fairly cutthroat, a result of, all things, Microsofts general business philosophy of commodifying its complements.

Something that is pretty important, and is missing from this guide, is to make sure you add headers indicating what the original IP address for the requests were (either in x-forwarded-for or x-real-ip or something else common.) Can do this

No, what I mean by that is in order to use mixins, in any example I've seen, you need to inherit from a class someone else provided that gives it. Assembly provides all the mechanisms for the dynamic keyword, I wouldn't say it is a feature

so, yes this leveraging of dynamic metadata provider technically satisfies the requirements for a mixin, but you're still not applying this mixin to a poco, therefore i don't think it's fair to say the language/spec supports it natively. th
