My sense is production companies / studios are a risky investment, but infrastructure (twitch.tv being the prime example) are more of a lucrative target for VCs. The studio risk is that the creative output of the individuals is the val

The problem is that there are literally too many cabs on the road. Cabs rarely, if ever park, and are constantly driving. Parking, and this may seem counter-intuitive, reduces road congestion. If you have many vehicles constantly being driv

There is a reason the cities regulate the number and type of cabs on the road; too many cabs leads to increased congestion being one reason. It is also important to license cabs and certify the drivers of said cabs. The main reason though,

This is my biggest gripe with golang; I want to be able to write functional extensions for the blessed generic types (slice, map etc.), but can't. Until we can do things like this, or implement our own generic types, golang will be a n

I would imagine you'd get the best results from an Alienware style sub-brand of the listed companies; very few stock PCs come with the high-end GPU's you'd want to make the rift a good experience.

Recent versions of windows come with whatever version of .net was stable at the time, in order to upgrade you have to download from msdn. This vs. `sudo apt-get install upgrade` etc. The announcement of the windows package management featur

You could use native interop into something like qt. Mono already does this for cross platform System.Windows.Forms.

Curious, if they just launched cross platform .net core, why didn't they just .net? Why typescript?

Can you add more color here? What is the separation between generics and functional programming? As an example in favor of their coupling it is very hard to write generalized functions for list operations without generics (without duplicati

vb is not a more powerful language than c#. c# exposes more core features of the clr than vb, which is a more fair basis for "power". richter didn't write "clr via vb", if you want more clues to this. it has a lot o

I've done this before on a large scale (vb=>c#). You don't lose revision control history, thats still in the history for the previous file. If you're doing things in vb that can't be done in c# (there are a few things

It is unclear to me why msft is still investing in VB.net. C# is a better mainline language; F# is a better bleeding edge language. VB.net seems like a holdover from the ASP days, and honestly is riddled with issues (no differentiation betw

The tooling isn't as good as on windows (namely, httplistener isn't as fast, ditto with the mssql driver). It's "safe" to use, and will be for the future but is not on par with windows yet.

We're also using httprouter and so far have been pretty happy with it. The lack of middleware isn't really an issue, you can inline the key stuff (Gzip, logging) yourself from other sources.

How different teams use money is not comparable. Meerkat is a small team, 14mm is a huge amount for them. Twitter is a huge company. It is unclear how these things would be used to benchmark one or the other.

Dynamic code loading is what makes C#/.net orm's fast (see Dapper, Destrier, PetaPOCO etc.) Basically they let you use an IL generator to emit a bunch of IL operations, then compile them to a delegate. This is useful specifically
