They are not suing Google. They are suing website owners using Google Analytics without consent from the users. They tried to reach an agreement with Google first.

It is by no means against the law in Germany to use adsense or Google Analytics. You just have to get the consent of the user before you are allowed to have their personal information processed by a third party.

If you do not like Eclipse, don't use it (for Android application development). There are at least two other free IDEs (IntelliJ IDEA CE and Netbeans) and you don't need one anyway. Use a text editor and you're just fine. I'd recommend buil

SMS is cheaper considering the battery of your mobile phone. Receiving SMS on a regular GSM-phone does not add much to the power drain. Compare that with an open TCP-Connection to receive emails (or XMPP-messages). Or worse with polling for

At that time the FreeBSDs scheduler was much better than Linux'. I had the same feeling about FreeBSDs responsiveness. I had a similar perception with Solaris on SPARC. It was slower overall but more responsive when interacting on the shell

"She would love to buy an individual plan that covered more than just catastrophic hospital visits, but she can't." I am not that familiar with the US healthcare system. Why can't she buy a different plan for herself? Is it too expensive? O

If it's really the carriers demanding bootloader lockdowns why is it impossible for me in Europe to get those phones unlocked if I buy them without subsidy? I think it is also the manufacturers who are responsible.

+1 on the IDE stuff of your comment. But Objective-C is a really nice OO language. It seems you do not get its dynamic nature. Yes, its different, but by no means inferior. And yes, tooling is much better for static languages like Java.

Just a quick reminder: You don't have to use Eclipse to develop for Android. You can use any other Java IDE (I use the free version of IntelliJ IDEA) or no IDE at all. You can even use a combination of XCode and Maven to develop for Android

Subsidies can and should be independent from carrier exclusivity. It was in germany since the late nineties. Until the iPhone I could get any GSM-phone on any carrier with a subsidy (for extending my contract).

As if the iPhone/iOS-Platform had no fragmentation: 1. different OS versions (The classic won't get 4.x and some users never upgrade) 2. different features on the same version (3G with 4.x has no multitasking) 3. different screen sizes (480

You can run Soylatte. Landon Fuller ported it when there was no Java6 on 32bit Intel Macs. Soylatte now is the Openjdk7 port for Macosx. Which is all good except for desktop Apps. It was impossible to run Netbeans, Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA

Oracle does not care about Java on the Mac. I think Apple should care. They will loose customers (including me) when there is no decent Java on the Mac. Server side Java won't be a problem. But all the good Java IDEs (Eclipse, Netbeans and
