I know Calacanis is a polarizing figure in the community, but I've always agreed with him that you shouldn't piggyback your company's success on top of a single service. edit: especially one that doesn't allow you to use their data in the f

Definitely true... I was speaking to the example of spending $50k/yr on mailchimp with 1,000,000 subscribers. If you're only dropping $150, then it's not as big of a deal.

Exactly this... People seem to jump on the bandwagon of SaaS services and don't really realize that, as a business, you should be trying to minimize expenses and maximize profit. Granted there is flexibility here in the products you use --

Finally someone who agrees with me. I like Backbone quite a bit and a large part of our application is now using it... However, the added code, layers of abstraction, and lack of any "right" way to do things make maintaining it more of a h

My advice is always use what you know best and I think a lot of people will agree. I've always looked at these questions like this: "What brand of tools should I build my house with?". It doesn't matter. Use what you have.

This is pretty much only due to IE6 problems with using it. Given that mostly everyone is finally dropping IE6, I don't see how it's a problem anymore.

10,000 line workers can easily be replaced by another 10,000 people with (likely) little to no education, credentials, etc... CEO on the other hand? Doubt it.

I've bought about 10 things off fab.com since they've launched... As you mentioned, the stuff isn't highly discounted, but the way I look at it is that it's a very nicely curated collection of cool shit I would never have found on my own, p

As a guy in tech, I agree wholeheartedly with everything Dave has said, and was surprised he said it in an actually non-offensive way, given his typical writing style.. However, something I took away from this that really surprised me was h

One small criticism... Calling your app "Collections" leads to some ominous looking emails when you contact customers: "This is Mike from Collections" makes me immediately feel like I've forgotten to pay a bill.

Do you think there might be any potential problems considering even your taglines are practically identical? "Build. Share. Earn." vs "Style. Share. Earn."

I live in SF as well and have noticed bar trivia picking up a bit. I think it's starting to catch on as companies spring up to provide trivia nights (there's one I just read about called geeks with drinks or something)... And just a small

Did not know that... It's been a while since I've really read up on my electronics info. Right now I have the EMPTek E55Ti towers (50-200W recommended) and the Onkyo TX-NR818 (135W per channel).
