Oh, I know it was sarcasm... I'm just pissed off at Path for some reason and wanted to comment how the tech insiders sometimes make up their own hype -- as if their own excitement speaks for the rest of the world that doesn't give a shit. p

Clarification: It wasn't anticipated by anyone other than the tech startup community insiders. Two types of hype seem to exist in this industry -- hype generated from an awesome new product/service, or hype generated because some already su

I'm sorry to be a naysayer, but I don't see why anyone even cares about Path. It seems to me to be another me too social sharing app that doesn't really provide much value. I am on the 37 signals bandwagon right now -- build a valuable pr

I'm guessing you came to that realization from actually having to do it? I was just saying that sometimes the prospect of having to do all of that "extra stuff" in the beginning isn't enticing. Once you get going you find that it is actua

I've noticed this with lots of engineering type people... We love to build, to push boundaries, test limits, apply new ideas and technology, but don't generally like to think about all of the other stuff because it doesn't seem quite as coo

I think the moral here applies to more than just dealing with big companies, but anything in general. Persistence can pay off big time. Quick example: I interviewed with a company back in August and was told I'd hear from them in a week.

Good read so far. Thanks! The story seems to be much like 1984 and is, in a sense, a much more extreme case of what I was talking about. I'm not suggesting we will or won't ever get to the point in Manna, but it struck me as funny that w

1) Who cares if he's spending that much time doing it? If he loves it, that's all that matters. If everyone dedicated themselves like that to something that ignited their passion, the world would be better off in general. 2) I would assum

Sorry, my 27" is 16x9 and the 19" on the side are 4:3. Didn't make that clear in the post. Just saying it's a good way to go :)

You can still buy 4:3 monitors. I have a 27" center monitor with a 19" monitor on each side. I love it. Unfortunately, though, 1600x1200 monitors are pretty pricey for the size.

It depends on the project really. I've been doing the nights/weekends thing for a while now for a new startup of mine and I couldn't be happier. Could I launch quicker if I quit my job? Absolutely. Is it necessary? Nope. If you're hap

Generally you can look up numbers and figure out what carrier they are. Perhaps someone should build a library to check a number for carrier, and then that could be used to act accordingly. SMTP has to be cheaper than SMS gateways.

Also, we're flirting with the limits of Moore's "law" here. I did a report back in high school on it and speculated you'd never really see processors over 4GHz. I guess I was right. As you start to shrink transistors and the spacing betwe
