I've only lived in SF for 2 weeks, so I wasn't sure if the BART/Muni stuff was public or privately owned. Good point though about unrelated calls, 911, crimes, etc. Had something bad happened during that time I imagine they'd be in some (m

Not being interested and being inappropriate for discussion by programmers are two different things. Simply because you aren't interested doesn't mean it's irrelevant for hackers to talk about.

Agreed that we don't need status updates on whether a social network is down. HOWEVER, in light of the recent threat to takedown Facebook, I think this is a good thing to open for discussion.

Interesting to see so many ways to do it, but what's missing is explanations of pros and cons of the different approaches (though I'm sure there probably aren't many differences). Why not just stick with one then?

Careers.stackoverflow is a good option, but the HN one keeps it within the HN community, which may not be as large, but is more close knit (at least from my experience). In addition, a HN Resumes would, in my mind, be a much simpler and st

I think it's a more efficient process for companies. Instead of getting 1000 resumes, of which only 100 may even be relevant, they can browse by specialty, experience, keywords, etc to filter through.

I'm planning on building the reverse soon. Hacker Resumes I guess. If you're looking for a job, you post info about yourself, location, links to all of your relevant info, and select from a few categories. Companies can then browse and s

In practice you wouldn't actually create just a red class or a centered class... I just meant to demonstrate that as you get more and more granular in the shared attributes of a module you can start getting css bloat... ie: you may have a l

Yeah, the id thing is just bs. That's the point of id's, to be used for non-repeating tags in the html. While you could try to generalize and find all instances where id's shared similar properties, then extract those and apply them to cl

Don't worry... CSS Lint is just anal. Your usage of those is fine in my book. I do the same stuff and I've been doing front-end development for something like 7 years now.

What Angry Birds really needs is cloud service to store game state and scores. I have Angry Birds on my Evo, my iPod Touch, and will likely have it on my iPad that I'm getting soon. It would be nice if I didn't have to replay all of the l

Start building stuff and absorbing all the information you can. It'll take a while, but you'll get there eventually. It won't be easy and it won't be quick, but you can get there.
