Apple is no longer a product company and now a peripheral company lol. They are literally selling shit that causes shocks and their solution is for you to purchase another cable of theirs… They take away ports and sell dongles that require

People in this post (multiple threads) seem to think a little shock that doesn’t kill you is not necessarily unsafe. This is mind boggling to me. If one is getting shocked at all, this goes to show some sort of fault in a given device or in

The tech looks really really good. I can see that it serves the purposes in their demo well. May be just my ignorance, but I am failing to see how this will be a business yet. The use cases are niche and basically require adoption from inst

It does have something to do with US entities. If the goal was anonymity, this move shows that it’s possible for it to be taken away by local entities. Imagine if all countries and localities did this. Also: re your comment below a reply,

I assume you work in tech. Let's say you work at Netflix, are you pinging anyone and everyone to review each PR you make or are you assigning a few reviewers (or better yet, does it just auto assign owners based on CODEOWNERS)? Are you

We have slightly different opinions, but I thank you for taking the time to chat, and trusting that we can do so nicely. The boards are to provide society comfort, but they enforce as you, said the minimum. Something just cannot be measured

If the problem is large enough, I do submit that there are multiple (even many) ways of solving it. I will also say that there’s problems where that is not the case. For example, we were told to write simulators for scheduling schemes (RR,

I would let 100 people cheat if it meant I was sure 1 innocent student wasn’t punished unjustly. People that don’t cheat may benefit in the future for not doing so. I said May here because I generally found university education to be useles

That sounds great and all but I honestly have doubts about this software that detects similarities… there’s only so many ways to solve the bland questions that professors lift from books; kind of ironic. I’m assuming it’s basicallly doing A

That's fair. So the whole people greeting you and saying hello, sounds a bit more like an overstatement. Here, I was speaking more to the fact that you can have a better social life there in general. Most NRI (non-residential Indians)

The main advantage of India for me personally is a sense of community that I felt when I went back there after 8 years. Everyone in the society (i.e: I'd say equivalent to a street or a suburb) knows you and greets you. You go to the t

Social media sites generally want a large user base. This approach sounds very technical so I'd imagine this being a big barrier to entry. PGP will make this even worse.

I think this approach is fine depending on what your product is and who your users are. One obvious callout is that now your login is tied to the delivery of the email. The article claims passwords are an additional form of friction, but so

If you delete cookies regularly, I assume you are entering your password regularly? Do you use 2FA on these sites? I assume you have to go through the motions each time. What makes clicking on these links more annoying? Some 2FA (or confirm

How often does that happen to you? I basically just watch Youtube videos all day, and often dig up old playlists and lectures. This hasn't ever been a problem for me. In my case, if I were to do it, this would basically be me being a h

Reducing friction is a good idea but I would argue that asking folks to generate and send you a secret is likely the same amount as them getting an API key that you generate for them. You’ll also run into uncertainties in secret key formats

I don’t really think you can maintain a social media company at scale without having revenue to pay the people that maintain it. HN doesn’t have ads because they are running HN at a deficit to get eyeballs on YC. Granted, to my knowledge, t
