This was part of a program on PBS called Digital Nation. The show was very interesting, and there's a section where the school IT administrator demonstrates his ability to pull up a students laptop ... and working webcam. http://www.pbs.or

I love seeing older articles on HN. There are plenty of places to find the latest and "greatest" breaking news (tputh, reddit, digg, slashdot, etc.) but really appreciate Hacker News members' perspective on stories that have been around for

It would depend on the events which led up to leaving Google in the first place. I doubt the original team left Google because it wasn't challenging enough or there wasn't enough flexibility, both of which would be reason enough to leave a

Interesting timing :) Looks like this is what happened with Aardvak. I'm just speculating, but the formula seems to hold true in this instance. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1118214

Sorry, would you care to elaborate? I'm not really sure what you mean by "the M&A department the first time around". I think the fact that only _some_ of the team members are ex-Googlers is significant. Additionally, what other business

I'm not sure if you've done this, but I'm interested in some of the details on your venture. 1. What technologies are you using? 2. How long did it take you to code? 3. Is this your full time gig or just a side project that you hope takes o

I'm pretty sure I've seen plenty of 5 letter .com domain names available using nxdom.com (started by someone here at HN). Especially ones that aren't easily pronounceable such as TPUTH. I'd check to verify, but nxdom is blocked by my employ

That WSJ article was REALLY low on information (at least in my non-payer's view), so I was glad to read your write-up. Hopefully, this will integrate with other Google products really well and be available on my Google Profile, etc.

I disagree, respectfully. Typography is more important than color and shouldn't be overlooked. That 'nitty gritty crap' is actually very subtle differences between typefaces and styles that can't be easily detected and shouldn't be discarde

Came into this thread to recommend this book and upvoted here. This is an older book, the 3rd edition is from 2008, but the first edition is a few years older I think. The most surprising thing (for me) was that design principles have not c

There's a great C&H collection with tons of commentary [1]. He does talk about the creative process a bit and how he loathes certain aspects of the newspaper industry. I find it all very fascinating and could probably watch an entire do
