I want a non-profit, quasi-military like organization operating plants in a transparent manner. A quasi-military / government organization operating transparently? Good luck with that.

I really wish they would have picked another way to deal with the fact that people write crappy software that only launches in "1a" and "1b". They dealt with the resulting capacity imbalances by randomly remapping AZs for new accounts, but

I don't see how that post in any way contradicts what Lustig has argued. It's not just about the amount of fructose, it's also about the way that the fructose is carried into our system. EDIT: care to explain why this was worthy of a downvo

I'm going to reiterate this again on this thread: Yes, this interview is long, as was the Youtube video from Lustig. But it is worth every minute of listening time. Watch the original video (linked in this thread) for a more in-depth techni

I don't think that's a mistake on his part. If you put a single large video or iso file on there that you downloaded, it's practically guaranteed that someone else has already uploaded it. And one 700 MB file will really skew that percentag

He's not so much saying that sugar in general is killing us. He's arguing that the way we're consuming it now (both volume and generally isolated from fiber/other nutrients) is what's killing us.

Interesting idea.. if one were to build the system as you described, there would still need to be a common link for the PGP encryption of the file-specific key. What do you reckon this is? IIRC, based on the other Dropbox article this week,

I don't follow. How could the client send an encrypted version of a very large file using only 16 KB on the network?

The proof is indeed in the deduplication. If Dropbox can skip the upload process of some large file because another user has already uploaded it, they must also be able to decrypt that file in order to sync it with your other machines. Or i

I wish there was more of an emphasis on this being a temporary solution. Usually when you need a patch, you need it now, so pulling the lib from your own git fork is the only immediate solution. But you should make every effort with your fo
