How did not doing these things sink the company? The problems stated are bad, but did something actually happen as a result, like a rogue script deleting things and the company no longer in business?

I agree that there's no attribution to probably piles of software that is used to get https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/xbox-cloud-gaming-... to work. However, flatpak is only mentioned twice, both as

It’s def a good positive reinforcement to give people a good feeling that they know their own neighborhood. Having the next 1.5 neighborhood is also valuable: if you live so close, it’s not a stretch to go learn the neighboring neighborhood

Trying to give some constructive criticism: the author of the substack has a few points, some good and some naive, about data standards and good/nefarious incentives of sharing data. The article is a bit rambling and could get to the

While I don't disagree with the article, I don't fully agree with it either. The article cites a study on (USA) GDP as a metric measuring of productivity, however, GDP is a poor proxy measure of "things being produced".

Same - I sign in once and all the other apps is a click away. From the author’s gifs, it looks like their SSO is setup incorrectly AND being incorrectly used. The 1st gif is really bad, the subsequent ones are more typical SSO setups. Also

I empathize with this, as this was true the first several years in my career. Self-doubt then crept in: if I rely on the IDE as a crutch, do I really know the programming language and tools that well? Then I put myself through the grinder a

Very bad title, the tweet has nothing to do with regional hiring market and is only about company salary levels. Salary levels at companies != US & Europe & India’s hiring market.

Seems like the underlying problem is that YouTube is 1 generic platform that contains news, entertainment, random home videos, etc. Perhaps the right answer is to “divide” it up and set requirements for each category of video, similar to ho

One of the features is Nazism is antisemitism, basically hating the Jewish people irrationally. So yes, being a Nazi is basically anti-Jewish. Ukraine is not like the Nazi’s since their leader is Jewish, the opposite of being a Nazi. Hence

Agree - the site focuses a lot on build, but ignores scm tooling. At a certain size, git no longer works well as a pure monorepo w/o submodules and these mega companies have teams of people optimizing code time vs build time checkouts

Automate that process that you find tedious; if you find it tedious, ask your coworkers if they do as well. Make the right time/automation trade offs. https://xkcd.com/1205/ Yes, work is tedious.

Agreed - end of day, code formatting is not that important in the context of how end users utilize the product. Read a lot of different code and programming languages. They all look pretty much the same after awhile, formatting and syntax.
