I can 100% believe that Autodesk isn't great at responding to customer requests, but presumably these firms would have enough budget to pay for devs to write a solution that works for them. Including making an open file format, EU spec

Any motion sickness problems? I'm thinking about getting this for when the weather sucks I can't get in a real plane, but motion sickness isn't my friend.

Got it. I took another pass through the article and was able to understand it a bit better with everyone's comments. Thanks all.

Yeah, this stuff is cool so I'm trying to wrap my head around it. It sounds from what you're saying that you're trading a lot of efficiency for protection, but I can't see any way around it.

So basically I tell you to do a bunch of stuff and give it back, and you have no idea if the computation is a partial application/full application etc. Neat. Next question: if my previous statement is correct it seems that it may push

I'd say it's probably more a factor of the _requirements_ of the software getting harder. Pre 1995 most developers were writing apps running on a desktop that wasn't even multitasking. Post 1995 you have preemptive multitaski

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, wouldn't this still be vulnerable to side channel or pattern analysis attacks? Also, how can all operations on a DB like projection, and equality be represented by addition and multiplicati

The problem with "local" (where local is maybe not even where you are, but where your base is) storage of data is that it's a pain in the butt. Maintaining hardware, doing backups, etc is fun for me as a hobbyist but is a dra

Good. Facial recognition coupled with mass CCTV is going to force us to make _hard_ choices in respect to privacy, and I don't think any society on earth is truly prepared to deal with that yet.

I remember in 1998 ordering my Yamaha COD and waiting out in the cold Minnesota snow to get it from the UPS driver, then paying 1$/disk. Total cost per GB amortized over the life of the drive was like 2$ since a newer faster model came

Weirdly enough, this is one of the things I like most about the "old media". When they screw up, they're on the hook and have enough resources to be worth going after.

I feel these plans are ignoring a big component of why we don't have tons of heliports in urban areas. Noise. Even with electric pushing enough air to move is going to make a fair amount.

It depends on society's tolerance for death honestly. You're not going to be VTOLing a 737s worth of people so you're probably talking about the number of fatalities in a mid size SUV. People would care a lot less if the rout

Carbs have an advantage when you're not going inverted: You can gravity feed them, with no fuel pump required. It would be interesting to run the numbers on fuel pump engine outs vs carb icing engine outs to decide which one was worse.

Not specific to this part, but most mechanical items that move get oiled as part of their operation. When they don't move for a long time that oil evaporates, and now the moisture in the air can attack the surfaces. This is a common si

Right, it's not CPU arch, but there's a much higher chance of having the entire thing open arch if the CPU is. I expect the probability of reaching a de-facto "standard" SoC to be much higher in RISC-V and I'll take

Mostly have a hope of having a bootloader process that doesn't hinge on binaries. I mean at some level I may have to, but it's really annoying I can't move an image from machine to machine even though the arch is all the same

The day a RISCV SOC on par with the Raspi 1, is the day I never buy another ARM board. It'd be nice if the whole SOC is open cored like the CPU, but I'll take what I can get.
