I want something like this but on a smarter router/switch that can wake my device up on certain port/packet requests going to the sleeping device. Having to setup a pi for this sort of thing seems like yet one more thing to manage

Seriously. Lidars 15 years ago from sick were huge and way more than $1k I tried with cameras and other sensors, made it very hard to do slam reliably. I imagine slam algorithms have also improved a good deal.

Man I wanted to do just this sort of thing 15 years ago but of course the sensors and processing power weren’t really small or powerful enough then. So cool.

no, its a joke because the creator of homebrew couldn't do it and didn't get the job at google, despite making something immensely useful. There's also this gem of how google wanted one of the creators of C to take a C test

Too busy asking people to invert binary trees and not looking for people that know how to make products that make money.

It’s all fun and games until the low intelligent masses buy in to it. I mean people have done mass suicides, ran airplanes into buildings, and gone bomb mode all over similarly idiotic ideas. People have massacred millions over superiority

It absolutely a batch interface for syscalls, with the ability to sort of create little I/O specific programs.

If you enjoy it I recommend a curie point thermaltronic or maybe metcal. I love mine, never having to calibrate the tip is wonderful. Having the power draw ramp up quickly on a big ground plane is a joy. Not fussing with a bullshit temp set

Raise the cost of owning and buying ice, lower cost of ev price and ownership. The rest will be natural. epa rules get distorted and piss people off, mega trucks are the result currently. We need the epa for clean water and air.

When ubuntu shoved libreoffice in a snap, and it took forever to start and crashed randomly. That was the day I wrote off ubuntu.

Short term gains traded for long term losses is a pretty standard CEO playbook move. Make yours then bail with a golden parachute as the plane crashes.

cachix is a fantastic value add to nix CI flows, it made it incredibly easy to add cached artifacts for a cross compile setup I had going which required a custom toolchain with musl build. It was super easy, and super fast. Well worth the $

It’s cool espressif is funding this, I’m especially interested to see how networking plays out as that seems like an area where rust would excel, the complexity kind of blows up quickly once there.

Maybe, I wonder if this can work like ic placement on pcbs where surface tension can help align things (solder will pull parts into place) I too would love to know as well!

And you just described why Rust is such a great choice for a open source project over C/C++.

"more preemptive" ok but how does this bound latencies and timing jitter from event to handling? E.g. I need to run a task at exactly every 100us, or within 10us of a gpio event, or ... You get the idea. Linux RT is, in my mind,

Oh I'm well aware of what is generally meant by real time. It's also abused as a marketing term to the point where it loses some meaning. What is the latency and timing jitter with ubuntu real time for a user land process? a kerne

I don't get what the sales pitch is here. It's "Real Time!" but... relative to what exactly. I really really doubt this is actually real time in the sense that even remotely useful sort of worst case timing could be dete

At one point I wrote a quad tree as part of the Map in SLAM to store probabilities of a point containing an obstacle on a 2d map, the thinking was I could use the quadtree to then navigate the robot. The reality was for the detail I needed

This sort of investigation probably needs something more like a gas chromatography mass spectrometry machine. I don’t think a run of the mill set of air quality sensors is going to tell anyone which toxic nastiness is in the air /water
