So you seem to be Eclipse-proficient. Please, tell me: How do i upgrade Eclipse (3.5 to 3.6) without reinstalling the whole thing and all plugins manually one by one? Why are plugins downloaded with 20KB/s, where apt-get gets 1MB/s?

6. I would like to see more FP constructs natively available in Python. FP constructs such as? Map is there. Reduce is one import away. There is nice syntax for list comprehensions. What do you miss?

I think it does not make sense to compare USA with China. It rather see english vs chinese, because the language barrier is bigger than the national barrier for a service like Youtube. The english speaking world is much bigger than the USA

Why is this the biggest problem? For every protocol there are broken clients. For example, most XML parsers are broken. That is not a problem of XML, is it?

There are little technical details. As far as i understand the thesis is: CouchDB provides all the groundwork for distributed state, so there is no need to build a lot sync/auth/notify code like Diaspora does. Really?

Your better-than-expected is interesting. At the point BigCo Coder, your probably get above-average income already. Maybe we should learn a little modesty?

Just tried it. I like it that the tumblr bookmarklet opens in its own window. However, Posterous improves by finding an abstract automatically.

I'm still using it http://compilers.tumblr.com/ because it has the best bookmarklet i have used so far. I even use the bookmarklet to enter free text posts without a link to the current page.

There is no general answer, because every project has a different workflow and culture. If you would like to hack on my little command-line bug tracker the answers would be like this: - checkout the code from GitHub http://github.com/beza1

Stolen from ditz: - create a simple website form for bug reports, which emails to the project mailing list, where all discussion should happen anyways - let a bot scan the mailing list for bug reports and commit them, wherever suited

Types were invented for optimization and used for verification later, weren't they?

Well, i am doing compiler research, which means testing is mostly SPEC CPU. Sometimes i wonder if those measurements show reality, because every serious compiler is heavily optimized for these special cases. There is no 2x difference there.

Superoptimizers are good at finding complex combinations of mini optimizations, but often optimization is finding creative solutions to lots of special cases. Machine learning does not help you with creating more mini optimizations.

Milepost Gcc is interesting. Regehr does not believe in it, though: "machine learning in compilers will not end up being fundamental." His argumentation is flawed though. He says "I could always get a good optimization result by running all

SSA and CPS is equivalent: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/summary?doi=10.1.1.3.67... In SSA form most operations (add,sub,...) are side-effect free and the rest (load,store,call,...) can be understood as using something like a "Memo

I think he emphasizes the joining of verification and optimization too much. No doubt verification may get easier, if they use the IR and all analysis info the compiler already did. SSA makes this stuff easier for example. Just tell me what

What do you mean by "most advanced"? * LLVM is probably the Open-Source compiler which fits your intention most. * GCC has man-years of efforts for little bit/byte tweaks, which no other compiler does. This is not advanced, but tedious. * l

Understand the effect of the constant factor hidden within the Big O. Often a O(n) algorithm is faster than a O(1) algorithm, because n is too small. E.g. arrays vs hashmaps. Make sure what n is in each case. For example a graph algorithm w

I do not know a single editor which does syntax highlighting by actually parsing (including semantic analysis) the code. Most of them use regular expressions at most.

I do not know what you mean by a "robust" web application, but in my experience Python libraries (for example feedparser) are of higher all-around quality. Less pitfalls, means fewer bugs and faster development.
