One problem with C++: It is hard to build tools for, because parsing it is nearly impossible. Clang and GCC plugins may change this situation, though.

GCC is now allowing C++ code. It will be interesting how they can keep C and C++ style unified and coherent.

LLVM is mainly developed by Apple and Objective-C (via clang) requires garbage collection, therefore garbage collection shouldn't be a problem.

My current favorite paper of the month: "An efficient implementation of graph grammars based on the RETE matching algorithm" by H. Bunke, T. Glauser, T. Tran http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/BFb0017389 Abstract: This paper is concerned with the

I agree that merging doesn't seem to be necessary. Probably they will be selected out until a few winners emerge. Currently Ikiwiki seems to be the most feature-rich to me, so i use it. The downside is an ugly template language and Perl.

The article doesn't compare OOP to anything. It tries to define OOP and considers it necessity. Personally i think FP is complementary to OOP and Haskell could be OOP according the articles definition (OOP=polymorphism). Maybe someone who k

I find the condition in your loop hard to test. A more realistic algorithm would be: while (model is not useful in the real world): collect data adapt model to fit data The problem here is that "useful" is a quite l

What open source code would you consider worth reading? Lua is said to have a nice code base, djbdns is probably the most bug free code ever written and TeX is also legendary.

I don't think OOP is meaningless. It's just diffused by too much talking. For me OOP essentially means polymorphism and here is an article i wrote about that: http://beza1e1.tuxen.de/articles/oop.html My Haskell knowledge is superficial s

You can't betray the processor, though. At least of x86 you would need to write condition = x < y and a compiler would create a conditional jump.
