Still beats a yaml file format that has evolved so far that is effectively describing a program and has no tooling at all.

Some time ago I visited some Italian cities from Germany by train. I could have done that tour with little changes 2000 years earlier. Of course I would have to get over the Limes first to enter the civilized parts of Germany in Mogontiacu

True for any computer, so not a good argument. I interned in the early 90's at a mainframe shop, and everything felt archaic even back then. Creating a file (sry 'dataset') is as complex as partioning a disk on other systems.

What's interesting that the IETF unconsciously tried to replicate classical TV with multicast. Apart from the complications of adding a lot of highly dynamic state to routers, it turns out that people actually prefer on-demand streamin

Innovations like that need 15-20 years from a working prototype to mass adoption, so I agree with the prediction that we won't see it in the 20's yet.

I want to agree, but the problem is that you now need 10 versions for many operations that are in a string library. Hidden assumptions -- like 'replacing a character in a string can never fail' -- may fail (eg in an email address

Especially in bigger companies, decisions to buy a product take a lot of time. Department A likes your product and starts asking detailed questions. Department B gets wind of that and feels that A is trying to get on B's turf. Departme

While I love the convenience, especially while travelling, I'd add 5. Fraudulent publishers; you can't easily see how 'thick' the book is. Some 'novels' turn out to be 70 page short stories.

Some dubious arguments there. Why should I trust Cloudflare? Yes, EDNS client subnet leaks the IP address to the authoritative server of a domain. But in almost all cases, a DNS lookup is followed by a connection to an IP address of that do

Borders were certainly not the only factor. As car development became more expensive, only bigger players had the capital to do it. But different national regulations (eg in France head lights had to be yellow instead of white) and tariffs

While this is all true, there is a tendency that big markets create big players. Eg. in the 1950s/60s, many European countries had several independent car manufacturers. The cheap car in your country may have been worse than a cheap ca

The German 'Duden' is comparable in its role to Webster/Johnson. A private dictionary publisher who somehow managed to be regarded as the standard for a language.

It's a regulation problem, not a technical one. In Germany --and probably in other EU countries--, the telco must make sure that a caller is authorized to use a certain number as origin. STIR just shifts that responsibility to some ot
