Very nice but very frustrating that you can almost play "Happy Birthday" except for 1 note missing!

PHP's single greatest advantage is ubiquity - would love to see a CoffeeScript compiler for PHP that smooths out these issues.

Thanks for clarifying - if taking her out of nursery is what you feel you should do then do it, your the only one that knows what's best for your own child.

I'm a dad with two kids, one went to nursery 3 days a week from the age of one while mum worked, one didn't (the income/childcare cost maths on 2 kids didn't work out) and I doubt you'd see any difference in their demeanour. Nursery is not

I still can't get over how bad Safari is when O'Reilly are so great in everything else they do. Does O'Reilly proper run the site?

If this was deliberate it would fit perfectly, which it doesn't - the radii on the corners are very different. Apple aren't that sloppy.

If it does embed the correct fonts that raises a legal issue, from a font licensing viewpoint.

Great article, most if this rings very true to my experience in one of the large old skool web businesses. It's a shame the rest of these comments choose to moan, IMO your just telling it like it is, not making a value judgement.

Is any basic piece of interactivity done in canvas/html5/something-not-flash worthy of an upvote?!? Do we have to go through seeing every bit of graphics code anyone ever ran on an Apple II get ported to HTML5?

mod_rails/Passenger changed the game on deployment of Rails - Rails deployment is no harder than PHP if you use Passenger/Apache. Most of the 'Rails is hard to deploy' opinions are just relics from the bad old days. high volume/high availab

Lots of people seem to be totally against Flash but there's really no alternative for commercial-grade motion graphics on the web. Having tried to create replicas of some pretty basic work in 'standards' based html/css/javascript (using -we

I think this misses a big point about the issue - Apple's "App" strategy is changing the way people access information from using web browsers towards using tightly controlled proprietary Apple approved apps (iTunes was just the start.) Goo

Apple have several core user bases, "creatives" have always been one of them - i'm not implying it's the main one in this age of plenty they're enjoying at the moment but it's seriously influential. The old cliche of hipster Mac users came

Agree with the gist of this, but it's not just the geeks that are getting fed up with Apple. Apple's core "black t-shirt wearing design hipsters" user base are very annoyed with the Adobe/Flash situation which is causing them even more cogn

I've seen a "shit ton" of demos and nothing I've seen is applicable to this problem. Wired is one of the most visually rich magazines around, it's layouts are complex, the visuals are rich, it's won many design awards - hundreds of people a

The fundamental argument is flawed - I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone could create the same seamless experience as the iPad Wired app in HTML5. I certainly haven't seen any demo's that would imply it's possible, saying "you c

I think that sums up my feeling on the Flash v HTML5 arguments - if all you are doing is moving a div from A to B, CSS3/HTML5 is for you. If your actually doing some motion graphics that need fine grained control and high production values

I don't think anyone is saying that taking something someone leaves behind in a bar is not morally dubious. My issue is that by calling this 'stealing' your re-defining the concept of stealing and then couching the argument in terms of thef
