It depends for who. I just need a fast mobile machine with lots of RAM for doing compilations and CPU-intensive work. I don't care about the GPU or sound. An M1 with Asahi looks fantastic to me.

Impressive. This will make me choose an M1 to replace my XPS. You should be paid by Apple for this.

> 99% of projects I don't know where you got this figure from, but I highly doubt 1% of Rust projects use a different build/package system. More like 0.001% (this number is scientifically extracted from thin air).

Exactly. Whereas writing Rust and rushing can give you correct, robust software.

This is a law for today. When batteries will last 100 years, the law will change. I find this law quite good.

Well that's precisely the mindset of C/C++. You have to think by yourself about everything that can go wrong with your code. And, man, lots of things can go wrong. I find more modern languages so much less exhausting to use to wri

I have a Renault Zoé, and live in the French Alps (1000m altitude) with harsh winters, and so far this little car has been marvelous. I wouldn't go back to an ICE car for my regular commute.

I have witnessed this mindset. The employer was glad to let people go after they were frustrated with low wages and no raises for a while. The result: very high turnover, all technical knowledge in the company was lost after a while (fixing

Well, I still own an XPS 9360 which works wonderfully well under Linux. That's why at my current job I choose a top-of-the-line XPS 15 i9. Big mistake. That thing went through several support iterations (WiFi, motherboard ...) and it

The problem is that current Intel laptops don't use S3 anymore, they use S0ix a.k.a. "modern standby", an abomination where the CPU doesn't really sleep and the battery drains fast. Dell, Lenovo, HP etc. all have the sam

Your Dell dies if you leave it in your backpack over the weekend ? I contest that claim. My XPS i9 dies if I left it in my backpack overnight ! I can't wait to have Linux properly running on an M1 Pro, so I can justify buying one.
