Does the cost matter? Both the iPhone and Music have value regardless of cost. Does anyone know how other companies like Spotify, Rhapsody, Google play and others treat the trial period?

But aren't there almost double the number of Android user's out there than iOS users? Any idea on how many of those are low end devices sold to users who just want a phone and have no interest in the play store? I just get the fee

No. They are not all at fault. The only one's responsible for updating their phones are the companies supplying the phones. There is nothing stopping Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG from creating and submitting a patch to AOSP and they are th

Why are you blaming Google, and not Samsung, HTC, LG? Aren't they the ones who produce software updates for their phones? I really don't see how Google is stopping them from updating their handsets.

They do support them as much as they are able to through play services. The fact remains is that many of those phones are unlikely to receive updates through 5.0.. How are you supposed to support them if the hardware vendors are unwilling
