Did you look at tarsnap ( http://www.tarsnap.com/ )? I don't use it, but read about it here quite a bit and it sounds really great.

If downvotes are used for disagreement, then I have to read them in order to know if they are relevant. If downvotes are saved only for irrelevant, one-liners, me-too's, etc., then I can safely ignore them.

Sorry, I should know better. I do hate when companies take their monopoly power(over the air waves, in this case) to do things that are bad for people. I can't find a link or think of a reference of an appropriate level right now.

>These are reports from users< Users, like blog authors, may or may not be independent. They can have agendas of their own or be hired/paid to say certain things. Also, I sure hope it is not true (or at least not an inherent issue i

Just doing my job. Didn't the world conclude that was not a valid excuse somewhere around 1945? Also, I think the success of pre-paid accounts show how much many people despise all the dirty tricks with contracts (like the $5000 bill when y

As a father with a daughter, I can imagine I would be very distraught. But, in this specific situation, if my daughter took pictures of herself, of her own volition and sent them out, it's really her decision. She might also get a tattoo or

Minors are not capable of making sound decisions, which is why they should be treated differently (and usually are). But, I disagree that this is the core issue. I believe that this is not a crime . At all. Not even a little bit. The i

As yet another parent, this looks promising. My ER visits are usually in the 5-7 hour range. I also don't really care what the place is called: if I have an issue, I want to go to the closest place that can help me. If it happens to be the

Nobody has mentioned the latency issue when gzipping. If you have to construct the whole file before gzipping, in situations where the file is large or dribbles out as the server processes the data, this could mean a significant slowdown. I

I've worked with a 10x coder and he does everything moe mentioned above, even including hardware. He is disdainful of those who program, but can't maintain their own systems. One guy is not much of a sample, but many times I've seen him fin

Aside from the issues mentioned (#1 up/down vote arrows too small and too close together, #2 screen is too wide, which makes the text too small, #3 links are useless without copy and paste unless they are live or super easy to remember):

Sounds like a nice solution. It does not sound trivial to me, though. Do you have any code to share or other pointers?Especially around the 'tuning' of this system (like, how many hours was too many, how much distance was OK, etc.)

Isn't the point of karma to make HN a community? Karma is an important way of demonstrating quickly if a link or comment fits within these norms. Community does not have to mean groupthink and I think HN has avoided this, as demonstrated by
