I have done this but it is not really a matter of "opting in". This is simply paying more for removing ads. People on the cheaper plans do not get to check a box to opt out of an ad. The price for the ad free plan is almost double

Yep. There are subscription levels with and without ads. I believe the ad free is $7 more per month.
