I think this is the most useful kind of data so we can put this into context, but I’m curious how they would estimate something like this. Use sea floor core samples to estimate sea ice coverage over a specific location over time?

They did give a chart showing monthly sea ice levels for each year, but I think they didn’t want to highlight that the data is only from 1979-present. Saying this is an “all time low” over only 44 years of measurements isn’t quite as impres

This seems like the classic trick that weather plays on people. A few years to us seems like a long time and enough to develop a trend and make conclusions, however, it is nothing when looking at weather patterns and climate changes. Those

The “international disaster” was voluntarily shutting down production for a relatively short period. Let’s see how we handle something real like another world war or global natural disaster.

No. This kind of zero sum thinking is rightfully rejected by most in the US. We don’t need to live with less, we just need to do a better job. More efficiency, lower footprint. We need to do better, not do less.

This is the same nonsense as the “population bomb” doomerism of the 60s. Unless we nuke ourselves into oblivion, humanity will preserve and thrive. Today is the greatest time in the history of our species to be alive.

I don’t disagree with you. Perfect is the enemy of good and action > inaction. I’m simply saying if you come across someone who is lost and without a map, it is helpful to at least give some basic direction.

You’re splitting hairs. The real metric would be man hours per GWh generated or similar. That metric is moving in the wrong direction as we move to distributed, intermittent generation. Make work is not progress, it’s a tax.
