There is a set of files that describes the state of the machine, it's called the filesystem. Anything less doesn't describe the whole machine. The 'poking and prodding' is just a convenient way of querying the very small

Advertising is doing 'better than ever' because for every x% increase in adblocking users, the adverts seen by the remaining people become more than x% more predatory. You can tell that a market is healthy and sustainable by looki

I'd be very surprised if that were the case. The impression I got from the article was that they were just changing the extension on video files so that they could be uploaded as PDFs. For it to be steganography would require the PDF o

No, the parent just spelt it wrong. Practice (the noun) is spelt with a C in Britain. Practise is the verb.

I found the analysis of how the desktop was treated in 8 a little far from how it worked in reality. The impression I got was that if you were using a tablet, then sure, the desktop was 'just another app', but if you were using a

I'd guess that it was more the relatively short amount of time the author has been programming than their choice of language. I skimmed the article and assumed the author had been programming professionally for 10+ years, just from the

I'd be tempted to make an image of the PDF and insert it into a Word document so it fills the page, but that would probably have broken their workflow (Word's inline comments, perhaps) and dropped me straight into the reject pile.

Actually, he said that if you were to download during peak hours, it should cost ten cents per gigabyte. You'd have the option to download at no cost during off-peak hours. The alternative, what is really happening in some parts of the

Not only could ad injectors not work, they probably wouldn't have been installed in the first place because the ad blocker would block any links to them. Not sure if that was your point; if so, I agree.

That's not under Google's control, it's under the OEM's or (in the US) the carrier. A phone bought directly from Google (the Nexus line, Google Play edition, etc) doesn't have crapware of any kind unless you extend

Any scheme I'm going to replace my current password scheme with (whatever that might be) must be both secure and convenient. A scheme which I must invest time into 'practicing' is not convenient.

We were certainly taught cursive, but I don't know a single person who still uses it other than me. Their writing is (for the most part) slow and legible, mine is fast and almost unreadable. More so when I use a fountain pen. Still, it
