My question: why is outside investing considered the norm around here? It feels like so many people are worried about "playing the game" if you will, ie getting funding, creating a "startup" and moving to the bay. To what end? To just make

Timing of post probably matters the most. I think I've done 4 Show HN's and only one made it to the front page - and that's because it was an HN Reader for iOS... I've seen some Show HNs be posted multiple times (the guy who made the github

Exactly. Plus storyboards tend to lock you in, and moving around and constantly iterating to better and better nav schemes kind of goes out the window.

Looks great! Only one thing, how often is it updated? I pushed a new Podspec to the master repo about 5 days ago for one of my projects ( http://cocoadocs.org/docsets/Colours/0.0.1/ ) and it should be v1.0.1. Just wondering if you are doing

JCPenney (JCP now?) is SEVERELY lacking a vision. And they have been for years. In my undergrad, I was on the school advertising team competing for NSAC ( http://www.aaf.org/default.asp?id=123 ) and JCPenney was our client. We were tasked w

I'm with you about CSS. It seems the target market of this app is geared towards Web->iOS devs, but that seems like a smaller slice than something like "Bootstrap for iOS" should be made to do. Bootstrap is great because it makes web de

I still think CSS is one step away from making something awesome for developers of all flavors (from not developing at all to extremely competent in other languages) to make native apps even easier to code. I'm working on a more natural lan

Software is another medium for my art. I used to think that the best way of getting my creativity and projects seen was to put software in people's hands. Now I know that the best way is to put easy-to-use, beautiful components in the hands

Yep. Got an interview for a software engineer position after someone looked at my Github, when a repo of mine was trending overall. I've got an Art degree, and no formal CS training - but the internet is a powerful and beautiful place.

Andy Warhol had a Factory of people working for him too. Damien Hirst does now as well. It's not uncommon at all for artists to do residencies with big name artists. Have you ever had a gallery show? Let alone a whole museum at your disposa

That's awesome! I've been playing around with some machine learning stuff recently, and because of my art background, I've been wanting to tackle similar stuff to this. Did you let your genetic algorithms run on real-life paintings? i.e. Di

To think that last July it was at about $5.20, and I scoffed at buying when it reached $6 cause that was more money than I was willing to spend... I'd be rich by now.

I think it looking more appealing is the key. Sure you can fit less, but if people don't want to use it, it doesn't really matter does it? People are usually more willing to make subconscious tradeoffs when it looks, feels, and works awesom

It looks like from the video it just writes it all and you drop an info.plist file and a build folder (probably with classes and all images) into your project. It doesn't show it, but my guess is that you then change the initial VC in the A

This is a reply to those below you, because I can't reply to them specifically. Word of mouth is considered the best form of advertising you can get. Almost 100% of the time it's not even paid for.
