Oh dear! Good catch, that's embarrassing. I did a recursive "wc" but then read the wrong column. It's only 21,000 lines. :-| Fixed now: at 21kLOC, is it still a figure worth including?

Fair question. Develop web apps, really. But I'm pretty open, and plan to leave my "what I want to do for you" for the cover letter when applying for a specific job.

Are his super() complaints really a problem in practice? I for one have always disliked the non-DRYness of typing "super(C, self).method(arg)", and Python 3's super() really improves on that for real-world cases. I haven't done much Unicode

Is that uptime [Flickr's] acceptable to a bank? I would love a Flickr-like bank. Banks are only open about 8 hours out of 24, and (at least here in NZ) even when I do an online money transfer, it only goes through in their batch th

A fellow Kiwi, sweet! Incidentally, I do have an electrical engineering degree. I didn't major in software in my degree, but I have in my job (I like programming more than circuit design, I guess :-). Still, it seems to me the term "softwar

This is similar to a short survey I ran the other day: I wanted some stats about how many people used wedding gift registries, so I put an ad on Facebook (targeted at married females in NZ) that said "Answer 4 questions about your wedding a

No, the WikiReader doesn't run on Linux. It's a tiny embedded micro that doesn't really have any operating system -- just a little flash file system and a couple of small drivers for the LCD screeen, touch screen, etc. Also, as my article n

That's great! I've usually used answers.com or dictionary.com, but they're slow and cluttered compared to this. Also, answers.com often gives you a Wikipedia entry when you want a simple dictionary definition.

As I see it, Knuth is to computer science what Tolkien was to literature. Neither man is what you'd call "hip and creative", but both produced a life time's worth of high quality, painstakingly careful work. (In fact, it'd be interesting to
