This is definitely your best bet. Were you using an iPhone or an iPod Touch in that time window? Maybe iTunes still has a backup of the device in its backups folder? If you were using Mail.app, also check your Mac's Mail Downloads fold

Well, the author seems thoughtful, but I'm sure he's seeking replies on the mailing list. You could propose something else!

Ahh thanks I need to update that! Originally Nylas Mail was OSS, but tied to the Nylas Cloud APIs (which did the actual mail processing.) The cloud strategy was too expensive, and in version 2.0 the entire mail-sync system was moved into th

Ahh I see! Sorry, I totally misread your message. Wow, that's a rough situation... If things get really bad, I think you could use a HTTPS proxy like Charles ( https://www.charlesproxy.com/ ) to decrypt the traffic and r

Yep! Electron essentially just launches a web app from a directory on disk in an included copy of Chromium, with NodeJS's JavaScript bindings as well as the usual ones. The web app has an index.html, CSS, all the standard stuff. It

Well, the web is evolving. If you're a sysadmin and you test everything in an ancient version of Firefox that doesn't display SSL errors, you're not getting an accurate picture of what the product's users will see. The l

Hmm, I thought Mozilla had pulled financial support from Thunderbird? This would be an exciting new chapter for the product, but the article doesn't address whether it makes financial sense for Mozilla to invest this much in Thunderbir

There's a lot of hate circulating around my Twitter feed this morning because of this, but I think it makes perfect sense. New users signing up for Twitter have to get longer usernames - everything else is taken. Then, when they try to

This is a great deep-dive into the GUI approaches taken by some nice cross-platform apps, but the author seems to have decided early on to ignore web technologies. It would have been nice to see an Adobe UI broken down, or Spotify, or Steam

This is awesome! Color scheme is very strange though. I live in SF, and I imagine if you surveyed folks on the street, everyone would tell you blue is a "safer" color than orange. Maybe it could follow the Google Maps standard—gre

I'd highly recommend checking out Nylas N1 ( https://github.com/Nylas/N1 ). It's beautiful, cross platform (Mac, Windows, Linux) and extensible via a plugin architecture borrowed from Atom. Nylas is currently w

I think it's fine for the Android team to take this approach like so many framework authors before them. I think the problem is that Android developers are seeking patterns and prescriptivist documentation because that's what many

I think it's easy to argue about tools, but take a look at popular desktop apps these days: Slack, Atom, VSCode, Spotify, WhatsApp Desktop... they're all built on Electron or the Chromium Embedded Framework. It seems the community

Honestly, I think JavaScript was just in the right place at the right time. If you haven't seen ES2016 yet though, it's really worth a look. Electron JavaScript isn't the jQuery crap of the 1990's. It's got destruct

There are a couple of things to consider: 1. Electron is not necessarily the best choice if all you want to do is "put your website in the Dock." In Electron, JavaScript on the page can do anything native code could do, like write

Ahh the DOS days are long gone I'm afraid... A single 1024x1024 app icon on Mac OS X weighs in at 4MB once it's inflated to raw bitmap data from ICNS / PNG. Throw a couple of those onscreen at once in a list and you're l
