Yep this is correct, location history can be scraped from the EXIF data in the photos in your camera roll.

I think FaceApp in particular strikes a chord in the United States because it's owned by a Russian Company. Name + faces (and therefore age and gender and race) + Location is the kind of data that enabled a lot of granular facebook ad

I feel the same way. It seems like this is likely to catch playful bots and not truly nefarious bots, because in the latter case the owner / author will sufficiently cover their tracks (and will probably not be in the state of Californ

Reminds me of those election SMS messages. /Technically/ a human presses send on every single message so it doesn't meet the definition of SMS spam, but for all practical purposes it is.

I'm the author of the Mailspring email client and I've been dealing with this Oauth verification process for the last three months. Mailspring has "pro" features that leverage a small backend API, but it syncs your mail

I generally agree with you, but I think YouTube being safe for kids became their problem when they launched a version specifically for kids and marketed it as safe.

I agree - I’m all for fairness, but billionaires could come back to Earth and redirect billions of dollars. All I could do is, I dunno, write a medium post.

I'll bite. I ship the Mailspring email app on Linux and I prefer Snaps as an application developer. The big win is that the snap system provides automatic updates for packaged apps. You publish the build on Snapcraft and 24 hours later

Yep I feel the same. TypeScript improves my workflow tremendously and I use it for everything now. Going back to regular javascript feels like driving without a seatbelt. Sure you can but why? Type-checking and smarter autocompletion mean I

Hey! I maintain the Mailspring email client and I've thoroughly battle-tested SlateJS and DraftJS. I'd absolutely love if we could move to something with broader contenteditable support in the future (it's more or less imposs

Yeah that’s the general idea - except that in this case, re-use of the same public URLs means browsers can cache the dependencies. (So we finally won’t have to download 400kb of the same React library code on site we visit!)

This is somewhat true, but to be fair there are only a few countries the US and it’s allies don’t do business with - as long as you don’t land in Iran or North Korea you’d be in pretty good shape.

I think this is a fine point, but the issue here is separate from whether you agree with the underlying idea of corporate taxes. They exist, and Amazon is exploiting the rules to circumvent the intention of the laws authors. There are many

Yeah this seems aggressive. At that brightness it'd be like having street lights flying down your block. Also seems like lights that bright might use a prohibitive amount of power?

I dunno this seems clear enough to me - they don't want you circumventing the terms of your license by running the game on a single machine and streaming it to many players. Each game instance requires a separate license. I'm sure

Well, performance and memory usage are two separate things. Electron's performance is quite good and if your audience is "computer users at large", they won't care at all about the memory usage. I'd say you should a

Unfortunately, Maripan is about porting iOS apps to the Mac, not the other way around. Apple's work on Marzipan isn't really an indication they're planning to do the inverse and bring Mac apps to iOS or do anything at all re:

I'd say there are a couple problems you're likely to have at a successful startup: 1) You (the early engineer) get promoted and are leading the charge, but have no mentors or role models to help you develop your career. 2) You rai
