This is such an awesome book. I read this back in the day and loved every minute of it. I think there is a lot to learn from it still, even if you're highly unlikely to be writing the same kind of graphics code. The book has a great b

Doctorow can come off as dramatic but he does it for good reason... if he wrote something without the drama we'd ignore him. The whole problem with DRM is everyone got used to it and has started to ignore how bad it can be... I include

Good reminder I should be cracking the DRM on all my eBooks to take a backup again. This is a perfect time for the companies to do stuff like make DRM digital goods go "poof" cause everyone (including the .gov) seems to have bigge

Lots of other people have pointed out the issues with this analogy. My reasoning for thinking this is not a good analogy is the supercar is a device that cannot be used/exploited in normal operation. It is illegal to use the top spee

This is pretty interesting to read... I think our media normally ignores North American pests travelling to other parts of the world. Around here we have a lot of talk about pests that have arrived from China that affect our local plants bu

Sounds like a reporter who doesn't really understand how a lot of this stuff works (didn't study it, never worked in the field?) but think he/she does. It seems really common. He's missing the whole thing about the doc

Also good to call out the better digital reverb units do this: 1) Split analog signal 2) Pass through one side to output (probably with a signal boost) 3) Take the other side & digitize 4) Apply effect to digital signal 5) Convert outpu

This can be spoofed/hidden extremely easily if both devices are open source and you want to change it though. It's not like TTL can't be changed. The tethering device can just rewrite the packets to hide the tethered device.

Wait how can I set my preferences for the activity they're tracking on me if I don't have an account? I'm not under any illusions they're not trying to track me despite me not having an account with them.

I keep thinking I see this on my wired (Comcast) connection too. Stuff just behaves too strangely for it to be anything else. One video provider will get slow. Switch to the mobile connection and it's fine. Switch to another site on

These #s are way off. 30mph does not require anywhere near 1000w, it's more like 350-400w on flat ground depending on the riders position and size. I'm a former amateur racer. I've done 30mph steady state for a mile on flat
