OK got it. I guess this is a good call out or whatever then from you all, but, I gotta say, the point can't help but feel a little incommensurate to the $8.8 billion elephant in the room.. Like even in the original article, this is lik

OK interesting. Who specifically are these other subsidiaries that clearly account for this loss though? I get it's just a trueism for those in the know like you, but it's pretty fascinating for me at least! Like is there one ex

Maybe I am little confused here but what you just described here doesn't sound great either? What smaller entities who OpenAI is parent to lost 3.74 billion dollars? Or maybe just can you point to some primary sources about this? I a

This seems fine but things being the same "on functional grounds" is just one way things can be the same. Why should we privilege this framing as something definitive versus another conceivable one? On functional grounds my bike h

Ok right, but then I don't see the original point. Or like, you don't seem to be appealing to a hard science/soft science distinction here if the question revolves around what conceptual model is most "useful" to us

I think of all these responses this articulates my point the most. If humans would struggle with it, why is it still supposed to be "spatial reasoning"? And underspecified or not, you frame this exactly in the way an LLM would tac

I guess I just don't have an intuition for why that is different from what it does for non-"spatial" things. Like the fact that it works is still because it produced the code it did token by token. Whether its dealing with, e

I am just trying to (gently) suggest you did not frame your points here in a good or convincing way, but thanks for the explanations here anyway. Sure sounds like there would be a lot to think about either way!

Currently the top one has a nice kind of supervillain flair to it: > Denying it is denying human nature, Mr. Bond, and the gods tend to punish the hubris of denying nature.

Hm OK, thanks for the lesson here. To be clear, it kinda seems like in your original comment you are using both the (a) and (b) senses, but just making a prescriptive point about (b), right? I think in this schema, I am still saying a good

In your mind, why are the second kinds of things here not "criteria" or "heuristics"? (Also you can enclose things in * to emphasize on this site btw. There is a little grey 'help' next to the comment box.)
