I'm a backer, and am now very used to non-delivery after backing hundreds of projects as a gamer on Linux. The non-delivery of projects, either complete failure or just failure to deliver to Linux, is probably around 20% or so in about

This is less of an issue if you use a multiplexer like tmux, so how appropriate Alacritty is depends on how you use it.

I wouldn't be interested in Dart at all if it wasn't for Flutter. I can't help but wonder if there will be Flutter bindings implemented for other languages sometime.

It's leagues better than what they do with some of the less popular FOSS projects they run, such as HHVM/Hack. What FB have done there has become an existential threat to some tech companies that heavily bought into Hack.

Only as far as the type system supports, but I feel like constraining the minimum version unit to increment is far better than doing nothing. Disallowing incrementing the patch version when the types of existing API changes is great.

It's FUD to say encryption doesn't matter without authentication - unencrypted traffic is eavesdroppable by default and exposes you much more broadly than just being exposed to one potential bad actor. Of course using authenticati

This comment is terribly misinformed. You absolutely can share memory between threads in Rust and can do it without race conditions (eg Arc pointers and Mutex).

Regardless of the motivations behind doing this (cynics could easily suggest it is a direct attack on Google Maps) this is great news for both OSM and the broader mapping ecosystem. The data OSM provides is immensely valuable and enables so

Angular has a monumental enterprise userbase, and I wonder what percentage of those developers even have a GitHub account. GitHub stars are a more a measure of hype than the size of the community.

I actually had exactly the same experience with my Pebble. I got it out of casual nerdy interest and was sure I'd use it for a couple of months and then pack it away. Having notifications and basic functionality on your wrist is surpri

Would it be correct to assume that swathes of old games will just stop working when 10.14 arrives? I'm not a MacOS user, but as a gamer that would frustrate the hell out of me.

I've heard opinions like this around the traps (most recently from upper management at my workplaces) but the arguments all seem to have the subjective unsubstantiated hallmarks of things like the paleo diet. Is there any tangible evid

This sounds somewhat analogous to what Nvidia do with their graphics drivers. You hear stories about how the driver is full of game specific hacks to work around bugs / poor designs in the games themselves. While this can be good for p

Perhaps a better idea might be to include the most popular client in some form of official tutorial / guide / documentation, or as part of some extended documentation separate to the language doc? That way libraries can coexist, b

The shifting semantics of "crypto" is incredibly frustrating; it makes it very hard to talk about in the technical sense. I know that language is in a constant state of flux (my background happens to be linguistics) but it seems t

When I've been working in Go projects which required external helpers of some sort, I've always just written them as separate Go binaries because they're relatively simple and quick to get up and running. I've started do
