What about RC boxes[1] in Rust? I believe they're correctly freed but not as part of explicit collecting cycles. [1]: https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/rc/

For a larger scale case of exactly this I recommend people read about Subversion[1] from Introversion. Regardless of the game being a failure, the tech behind it was incredibly cool, and you can understand how obsession with the technical

I feel the media has taken a useful word in the technology world and made it almost useless for general usage. I'm scared to even mention "metadata" to people even in relevant technical context as the word has become politic

I'm always surprised at how many people willingly put up with Eclipse's clunkiness and performance problems, regardless of how many functions it provides.

I'd just love to be able to search the respective stores being able to filter out stuff I'd never want. If I could: * Filter out any apps or games with microtransactions. * Filter out any apps or games with ads. * Filter down to a

It looks like a big improvement, but I notice visual mode doesn't work with cursor keys, and I'm also not seeing an ex-mode (eg. :w). Would love to see these implemented :)

I'm a long time Linux guy and absolutely hate Visual Studio, it's just clunky and unusable as Eclipse. This post prompted me to try VS Code and I must say, I'm really impressed. There are still a few rough edges but I do und

A lot of people don't want a bloated editor with too much bundled in by default. I'd be incredibly frustrated if there was some vertical selection functionality built in if it caused issues with a Vim mode extension.

I actually find web applications a fairly weak use case for Go, it's never incredibly pleasant to do. Network services in general are very compelling, mainly because of the strong standard library.

I absolutely love bash + powerline. You might know powerline if you're a Vim user. http://i.imgur.com/3FKaEIy.png It's incredibly easy to set up, I have a script to do it[1] but doing it by hand is trivial. [1]:
