Those numbers are really high. Keep in mind the person who wrote this article mentioned 2 years of experience so they are probably ~25 years old. They probably spend half that much on rent/living expenses, like 10% of that much on insu

The data is for the whole NYC metro area, so the drivers are probably people that live and work in the suburbs and are not commuting to Manhattan. I have seen numbers that put people in the city proper at like 75% no car ownership.

Sunk cost fallacy/hazing mentality. "If I spent 6 months of my life memorizing programming problems to get a job at Google, then everyone should have to".

Should a couple weeks of preparing be necessary when you have spent years doing the work every day of your life? This 100% biases your interviews to people willing to spend 3 weeks practicing problems instead of doing meaningful things, esp

Square watches do exist e.g. Cartier Santos and they do have ergonomic advantages. Smartwatches are not alone in the trend of watches being huge. Most watch brands have started making more 43mm+ size watches which I find far too large. Smar

Go still seems pretty niche here. Even the companies you mention are still mostly using Java, but I do know of teams using Go on certain projects at those places.

The market being flooded with poor talent may even make it worse than it being flooded with good talent. Companies now need to invest a lot more time filtering out the people who can't code to hire junior candidates. Instead companies

I really hope I can continue to live close enough to bike or walk to work. It makes a huge difference in alertness when starting the day with some activity versus driving to the office.

I grew up in a very rural area and we had a similar ceiling. State schools for the top 5% of students, community college for the next 20%, and farming for the rest. I did well in high school and I applied to a few high caliber schools and w

Javascript is already fast enough for native apps as can be seen with things like cordova. Even with WebAssemply the layout and ui draw will still need a browser engine which is where the real difference between native and mobile is.

How common is it to have designers that are actually writing css and html? Of the dozen designers I have worked with, every one of them was using a tool like Invision or Sketch and as far as I know, have no html/css knowledge.

For someone fresh out of college or a boot camp that might be useful for me, but when looking at a candidate with a lot of experience (5+ years), I would not really be too interested in languages they used unless they were in large projects

What it sounds like to me is better optimization of vacancy. If you can raise rent by 50% and only lose 25% of tenants, you have increased revenue while also decreasing expenses.

The people commuting 1 hour in the US usually don’t even have a public transit option or it would take 4 times as long. In my city, a trip that would take 1 hour by train/bus would probably be 20 minutes by car and parking is plentiful

I believe you can get iMessage to work but it's a huge pain. Some of the macOS services require a legit apple device serial number to function, so you have to spoof an actual mac serial number to get it to work
