This statement can also be taken as one as a limitation of our understanding of the internal lives of other creatures. And there's nothing scientific about it.

We don't need to put 0s in front of dates before 1000. Why do we need to do it for dates before 10000? Any date after that will have at least 5 digits, which distinguishes it from dates before then, which only have four digits.

Why would technologies enabling such power and control be allowed into the hands of anyone but the most trusted/trained/indoctrinated to use in service of the Federation?

If you want something a bit DIY but very capable, check out the openFlexure scope. It's a 3d printed body to which you can add an objective and it has a 3d printable micropositioning stage and Pi camera mount.

If the experiment invalidates your old model, eventually you need to come up with a new one.

these are actually quite easy to make at home - just mica powder (often sold for makeup) and water (and colouring). The alignment of the mica flakes with the flow creates the patterns. see https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki

If your compression algorithm worked for just one fixed set of data, then you could just store that fixed data in the decompressor and achieve infinity compression of the data to 0 bits.

No, you can't. Consider applying your compression algo twice, or N times. If it gets smaller each time, then eventually you could compress anything to a single bit.

Absolutely. If you say something came before the universe, then you need a new word to describe that, and what was previous called the universe is no longer (by definition/need for a term to encapsulate all). Personally I don't b

Belief in being created requires belief in some being (your creator, or their creator, etc...), _not_ being created - the prime mover. Unless you believe in an infinite regress of creators I guess.

Almost all colour astrophotographs you see are made up of a composite of many bands, like UV, IR, X-ray, etc (and visible), with colours mapped to the different wavelengths. The instruments collect many wavelengths because it allows us to s

We need large scale coherent perfect absorbers [0] before we can do long distance power beaming. Other than that with a solar pumped laser (spread out over many m^2 on the ground to reduce the death-ray-ness) you could get decent efficiency

It's more like, 1/time (i.e, frequency), is what has been defined by the observed atomic oscillator frequency, and the second is derived from that. A real weird unit is km/l or miles per gallon, which cancels out to a unit of

FWIW the equivalence between NFA and DFA requires an exponential space increase to encode the NFA as a DFA, with an exponential space blow up you can encode a lot of things as DFAs (I'm pretty sure you could encode a Turing machine tha

Basically when you modify an orbit with a single impulse - short rocket burn, bumping into something, etc - the resulting orbit will still intersect that point (unless you reach escape velocity). So those pieces should return to that piece

This wouldn't work as you could have a semicolon in a string, to handle that you would need to know when you're in a string, and due to the existence of backslash escapable quotes in strings, you can't do that with a regex* *
