If you are on iOS Safari (maybe it does this on Android too, I don’t have an Android phone to check) have you: * Looked at the top-right corner of that popup. * Then, scan upwards from that corner, maybe 1cm above it That’s where the x to c

Oh, weird. I didn’t think there was a way to get rid of the pop-over that hides the post on iOS Safari. But it turns out that there’s a button to close it, just, completely disconnected from the pop-over and hanging out with a bunch of unre

BlackBerry didn’t seem to port too many PC-centric concepts. Felt like a step too far in the opposite direction actually, too PDA-ish.

IIRC you can’t even read a single post without an account, it is equivalent to posting a link to a private Facebook group or whatever from an outsider point of view.

Apple is the least interesting company to compare against. They are in their own MacOS/iOS software ecosystem, which you want if you want and you don’t if you don’t. Not to be dismissive of either side of that, there are legit reasons

Neither one has even gone to college yet. I’d expect Alice’s project to be more likely to interest professors, get some undergrad research experience, maybe that can turn into something.

The idea of Mastery Learning seems to resurface every couple decades. I guess because it pretty appealing but requires more per-student customization; there’s always a hope that now, finally, we’ve got the tech to let everyone advance at th

TUIs and GUIs are both mostly bad for the same reason, you have to learn a new “language” of interaction for with each program, finding the buttons and figuring out how the designer thought the information should be hidden from you. Stop bu

I didn’t do any leetcode, but I did some Project Euler, which was the cooler predecessor. It was a fun, but I don’t know why these gamified programming things have become so predominant in hiring. Why not hire based on Factorio progress or

I would usually say something along the lines of “everything we covered is on the table” or “everything we covered since the last exam is on the table” depending on the nature of the test. That’s the same message as “know more” but I think

I’d say 2 is the one doing the actual crime. 1 might be violating their contract with 2, though. 3 and 4 are not involved.

Definitely not going to argue against the Jevons paradox in general, it is observed in various cases. The lightbulb thing seems different though? Or at least it is a specific subset. Lights in Las Vegas are sort of an advertisement, right?

Putting aside this specific case, I wonder how that $2,500 cost is calculated? Flock owns the devices and leases them out I think. Hypothetically somebody could take the device down and put it in a nice tidy little box for them. Then the co

Is that trickery NAT, network address translation? It is a pretty widespread technique I think, we’d have run out of ipv4 addresses a while ago without it.

Somebody’s got to be paid to write the basic news articles. Maybe we could have a government funded “basic news” (although there are obvious concerns that that might turn into a propaganda service).
