What sale? If a newsletter popup prevents you from actually looking at the site, you really need that time machine back to 1995.

Local history saved my sorry butt yesterday when I thought I lost all my files due to a git-related accident. But Local History still had all my changes and restored my files. Unclear why this isn't baked into the OS nowadays. It'

I sure hope it uses tons of custom swing widgets. That's something the Java team never got right: the cross-platform look&feels looked just awful.

Intellij is written in Swing. Yes on memory hog, no on terrible UI. It works quite well across platforms (I'm using the Windows and Mac version)

Yes, solves an interesting problem if everyone plays by the rules. But nothing in there prevents me from stealing your media, changing it slightly and reposting it, grabbing all that sweet sweet Zora cash, or whatever you would call that. I

"The language doesn't matter much to me, I know enough of them to know that they are all very similar and thus easy enough to learn." Time to give ClojureScript a shot? Great time to get acquainted with Fulcro or Re-Frame. Bo

OO is applied for the wrong domains. A typical web app with a database back-end is probably the worst offender. Modelling your data with OO, fitting it somehow (ORM == OMG) into database tables and then use some annotation magic to turn tho

Valid point, if your app is a todo list manager. There's a level of complexity in the domain logic where all these things mentioned by the author become pain points. That complexity can't be reduced by "simplify your UI"

Please don't. Unless you are willing to pay for the services you are using for free now, ads is what keeps them "free". You can object to being targeted based on your browsing habits, but don't stop ads altogether.

Quietly sitting in my re-frame corner and wondering how JS developers cope with framework-churn. And, yes, reagent (used by re-frame) nicely combines pure component optimizations with react-style rendering.

It's working fine for us and we just hired 6 new clojure devs. Code base is quite significant yet easy to make meaningful changes to. Most reasoning is local to your changes thanks to the focus on small, pure fns dealing with immutable

This might be pure if you can guarantee no one is changing txns - for example - while updatePersonBalance runs. Throw in a async fn in there and all bets are off. Looking at state mgmt solutions for JS today, many will require or recommend

A bad codebase is a bad codebase. I can show you quite a few bad Java ones. I just started to work on a quite large Clojure codebase and I had no trouble making meaningful contributions within a couple weeks. Having mostly pure functions ma

A simple way to avoid the problems highlighted in the article is to use immutable data-structures. If you need to update that across threads, am atom with CAS logic will usually be sufficient. If you like it erlang style: an agent can seria

I suggest you check out efficient mutable data-structures which are safe by default. Clojure and ClojureScript come to mind.

Classic servers are always simpler. Unless you need to manage a whole lot of them. It's like we suddenly have forgotten how to run several services on a single machine. ;)

That is wishful thinking at best. If your software doesn't know what to do with the additional compute-power, nothing is going to happen. Your postgresql DB will not automagically scale. Your mail server won't. Your static web ser

I would find it much simpler if the computational model of a DOM update is spelled out explicitly. Because, essentially, we are trying to update the DOM from a single thread - buried in callbacks and need some nifty libraries around that. R

How long will this be good for? Has the pace of library turn-over slowed over in JS land? Last time I checked, express was still a thing for web services.

I started with JINI back in the day and added dice-throwing and split-brain detection based on the higher-level primitives that JINI provided. I had no clue what I was doing and it usually ended not working ;)
