I would suggest looking into fedora workstation. I switched from Ubuntu around fedora 35 and have not looked back. Stock gnome, integrates into flathub easily. Dnf and apt are similar enough.

Hardware emulation can make the timings between multiple chips more accurate as processes actually can be done in parallel and in sync with a shared clock. This is harder to get perfect with software emulation. In theory.

I bought a cheap lenovo “workstation” ~400 usd mostly to run haiku. Laptops tend to be a little more difficult as they tend towards more “exotic” hardware.

Thanks, I had never heard this term until I started working at my current employer. It seems like bay area lingo is assumed to be understood by everyone, even though it may not be used in the industry as widely as some folks assume.
